it’s a small car summer
I’ve believed that rightsized vehicles were inevitable in America for over 15 years. People thought (and still think) I’m crazy. Seeing the U.S. Department of Transportation share this article that includes @drivewithchip is so validating and puts a smile on my face.

Might finally get The Rideshare Guy giving rides
🔋🚘 Just reserved my next car! I’ve been an advisor and investor to @drivewithchip for a couple years and happy to say that I’m now a customer. Most excited to drive this thing to the beach and then have it go park itself :) You can reserve yours here 👉 chipmotors.com/reserve

Deserving. @spc backed @drivewithchip before Chip could talk.
Today we’re announcing SPC Fund IV: $575M to help founders find their life’s work. A decade of guiding founders through -1 to 0 brings @SPC to $2B in AUM and, more importantly, a 1200 member community of the world’s most talented technologists. We strongly believe that: → The person comes before the idea. At -1, generational founders are often busy reading, prototyping, discarding, and earning the right to their own conviction. → Ambition is social. The people you surround yourself with in the early days play a big part in inflecting your ambition. → Patience compounds. It is better to work on something you have deep conviction in rather than simply sprint at the first idea. The quiet months we protect at the beginning have produced three funds in the top 10% of their vintages, and companies like @baseten, @GammaApp, @render, @GoodfireAI, @LumaLabsAI, and @profound. We are proud to have worked with all these founders in their -1 phase and beyond. While we defined -1 to 0, we're no longer bound by it. Fund IV allows us to partner with companies well beyond launch. We're doing this now because we've never seen a wider gap between what's possible and what's being attempted. Intelligence is abundant. The cost of trying ideas keeps falling, and problems that seemed insurmountable a few years ago are quickly becoming solvable. To our members, to the founders who trusted us before anyone else did, and to the LPs who had conviction in our own -1 journey: thank you. This milestone belongs to you as much as to us. To the builders looking to find your life’s work: let’s get started.

Chip is about rightsizing and giving you options. This includes our plans for self-driving. FSD is great for long drives in my Tesla, but for my daily life around Miami with the family, the real pain is parking. That’s what we’re solving with Chip Go! Thanks @tbpn for letting me share more on that!
Thanks to @tbpn for having Chip! "Chip is fun to drive. Parking isn't." Here's more on that.

"Dragging several thousand pounds of SUV to collect a coffee can begin to feel slightly excessive." Couldn't have said it better! Thanks for the feature, @designboom. Read the full story: designboom.com/technology/ch…

The technical term is "Party in the Frunk"
Had a great time celebrating the launch of @drivewithchip yesterday! ⚡🚗 Chip is a new all-electric "life utility vehicle" built for neighborhoods, campuses, resorts, and anywhere you don't necessarily need a full-sized car, including places you do. A few things that stood out: 🔋 Up to 100 miles of range, with a top speed of 25 mph 💰 Starts at just $15k ($18k for the 6-seater) 🔌 Native NACS charging to get you juiced up in a few hours + can even charge from a standard 110V outlet 📷 Multiple cameras and radar to monitor traffic conditions 🧼 Washable interior that you can literally hose out 🎨 Tons of customization options for colors, seats, roof, doors, and more 📺 An optional front hood with a built-in TV and speakers (definitely one of the more unique features 😄) One of the more interesting parts is Chip Go, a remote-driving service where a real human can remotely drive the vehicle for things like parking, pickups, or errands today, with the long-term goal of Level 4 autonomy in the future. Pre-orders are now open with a $250 refundable deposit, and deliveries are expected to begin in 2027. Big congrats to @jamesoniam, @ilanpenn, and the entire Chip team on the launch! 🎉👏

I’ve long been excited NEVs, but it’s really hard to compete with a used Camry. But when I saw an early prototype and roadmap for @drivewithchip, I thought that maybe they made something fun and convenient enough to break through. Proud to be an early investor in a company defining a new category of vehicles.
The next great American car is a robot. Talks. Parks itself. More customized than your coffee. Meet Chip (@drivewithchip). You can reserve today. Starting at $15,000.

Will always remember sitting in @spc office, Aditya heard the pitch, said we were crazy, and backed us anyways. Turns out you can just do things
The thing that is amazing about innovation...is that you can just do things. Proud to be Day -1 supporters.

Miami-based startup Chip Motors has unveiled its new all-electric "life utility vehicle." • Starting price: $15,000 ($18k for 6-seater) • Range: Up to 100 miles • Top speed: 25 mph • LFP battery pack • Native NACS charging port. Charges in a few hours • Optional hood with integrated TV and speakers • Four-and six-seat versions • Multiple cameras and radar to monitor traffic conditions • You can use a hose to clean out the interior • Portrait center screen • Can charge on a standard 110v wall outlet, though a 240-volt socket will repower it less than half the time. • Customizable: Pick your color, seats, roof, doors, and add-ons in the configurator. • Comes with Chip Go, which is a remote-driving service where a real human driver takes the wheel remotely to handle things like parking, pickups, errands, etc. They aim to achieve level 4 autonomy so it will drive itself in the future. • $250 refundable order fee • Deliveries start in 2027 Configurator: chipmotors.com/configure

Meet Chip! So proud to back this team. Definitely the wildest investment I've made to date (and the most fun). But if you know me, you know I love: 1. Founders who stick with the same problem for a long time (Jameson has been building in mobility for 13 years) 2. Differentiated positioning (focus on families, an accessible price point, and fun!) 3. Cars (grew up in a car family, and working for Audi of America early in my career was my dream job)

This is what American passenger rail looked like at its peak, over 50 years ago. There was a time when the United States had the greatest passenger rail system in the world. We've lost that. America deserves better. And we're building it: The next Golden Age of American Rail.

We found a way to expand passenger rail across America without laying a single track. Dreamstar Lines uses underutilized freight capacity to run passenger trains across thousands of miles of existing rail infrastructure We’ve secured a memorandum of understanding with Union Pacific to operate on the LA -> SF corridor one of the highest-demand rail routes in the country, with plans for this route to launch service on the eve of the 2028 Olympics. This is just the beginning. We plan to expand these partnerships across the most important corridors in America. In just a decade, Americans will have a well deserved alternative to flying or driving in the medium distance. Once and for all we will Make Trains Great Again.

As we're beginning to rollout our hardware, I decided to show a little of what we are building. A small, strong, cheap to make, Android. At vitrus.com we're making them so people can *own* the entire stack of these machines on their factories, workshops, creative lives. Fully assembled in California. No back-doors, all the freedom. In details here 🧵
