I have withdrawn from the @FIDE_chess election for Vice Presidents as Pavel Kolobkov, a former Minister of Sport in the Russian Govt was elected. I will not sit on the FIDE Council if he is there. I will assist in any legal action against FIDE in CAS

We agree on this, but I fear he will be elected, Arkady Dvorkovich campaigning on his behalf. He is unacceptable, legal action against FIDE must be taken if it can be funded. Whatever the outcome of the elections I will back this legal action with my time and ££. His candidacy clearly contravenes a CAS decision. @PHChess @GMastrokoukos
Sorry, but I think Pavel Kolobkov should not be running for Vice President, and I was one of the signatories, together with @GMastrokoukos and the @uachessfed, asking the electoral commission to reject his candidacy.

Norway Chess Federation marked safe from corruption ✔️

Norway is one of many countries whose chess communities and federations are supporting our campaign—and the Norwegian Chess Federation has now made its position public.
It has named Malcolm Pein and me as its first choice in the FIDE presidential election, stating that our ticket is the closest to its values.
This decision follows meetings with all three presidential teams and an open dialogue with its members. I appreciate both the confidence placed in us and the care taken to reach that decision.
Federations deserve leadership that listens, answers difficult questions and takes responsibility. That is the standard Malcolm and I intend to uphold.
Thank you to everyone supporting us. Your trust strengthens our determination to work for the future of chess.

A $6 million commitment to help media communications
I announce the creation of a FIDE Chess Media Fund, with $1.5 million per year, from 2027 to 2030. This is a minimum commitment of $6 million over four years.
The Fund will support projects by national federations to help them build and increase their media capacity to better promote their work and players. This includes support for building digital channels, developing sponsorship materials and receiving practical training and expert support.
The fund is open to all national federations. It is important to note that this would be additional funding. The proposed Development Fund programmes would run separately, with a separate budget allocated for that.
Our goal is practical. We need more chess in public, and to achieve that, we also need to help federations build capacities on how to spread their message, engage audiences and sponsors.
We want to help Member Federations build their own, independent, media voices. This is one of the pillars of capacity building within FIDE which we want to provide.

Why do we even have electoral rules, if they can be breached in clear daylight without any consequences?
Here are some moments from our lunch with the delegates at the 2026 FIDE Congress.
It was great to see many of them attend and engage in genuine discussions about chess and the future of our sport.
Beyond formal meetings and busy schedules, conversations like these matter. Questions are asked openly and directly, everyone is involved and the conversations are frank. They give us the opportunity to listen, exchange experiences and better understand the different perspectives federations have and specific challenges each faces.
Different countries, different cultures, different challenges and ambitions – but a shared commitment to helping chess grow.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this a great day!

I have said publicly that I support the direction of the Buettner/Pein platform. You should always know where a candidate stands.
Nevertheless, my candidacy is independent and nominated by five (5) member federations.
National federations are the effective owners of FIDE and this stems not only from the FIDE Charter.
Anyone can create another “FIDE” chess organisation, with a similar name, in another jurisdiction, but it would have minimal value.
What makes our FIDE valuable is precisely its 204 member federations.
They have gifted FIDE a global network across every market and culture, a rating database with over half a million registered players and the institutional backing that enabled FIDE to be recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Despite all of this, no systematic share of FIDE's revenue reaches the National Federations.
Among the three Presidential candidates, the Buettner/Pein ticket proposes a 20% revenue share.
It is something I fully agree with.
I appreciate that now other candidates are also addressing the national federations as beneficial owners of FIDE.
From my side, there would be no winners and no losers on the 27th of September.
Whichever ticket and Council members the FIDE GA elects, we all have to work with each other constructively. From my side, I am committed 100% to this.
