Au Québec, le gouvernement freine la réunification familiale. Je trouve cette politique injuste, et j’ai publié un texte dans La Presse pour en expliquer les conséquences. Voici mon analyse: lapresse.ca/dialogue/opinion…
In Quebec, the government is putting the brakes on family reunification. I find the policy unfair, and I published an article in La Presse describing the problem. To read an English version, click here: open.substack.com/pub/migrat…
This is a really nice comparative study of pay gaps for immigrants in nine countries. The findings show Canada doing worse than most other countries. Such insights are important and only possible through comparative cross-national research.
Immigrant workers, on average, are earning 17.9% less than a country’s native population, according to a paper in @Nature. Three-quarters of the pay gap between the two correspond to a lack of accessible high-paying jobs for immigrants. go.nature.com/4lYyfp1

UNHCR is being forced to scale back operations.
We’re prioritizing life-saving aid, but the gap has driven operations to the brink, also jeopardizing efforts aimed at achieving self reliance.

Will the EMPP program be extended? It is a good initiative that merits continued support, while strengthening other opportunities for refugees.

I think @AnitaAnandMP is one of Canada’s best ministers. It’s too bad she is leaving politics.

Russia illegally and unjustifiably invaded Ukraine.
For three years now, Ukrainians have fought with courage and resilience. Their fight for democracy, freedom, and sovereignty is a fight that matters to us all.
Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine and Ukrainians in achieving a just and lasting peace.
Here's a nice clip with my mom, my nephew, and (in the background) my dad. I have never skied the Birkie but the rest of my family is quite passionate about it!

This is a sad week of saying goodbye to @AdnanMhamied, who is gone too soon. Adnan was an expert on Syrian refugee fathers: examining how forced displacement impacts men. I will miss his gentle spirit and his passion. Here is a profile of his research:
