Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon on Monday said veteran journalist Philip Lustre Jr. was denied due process because he was not given the opportunity to respond to the complaint before an arrest warrant was issued against him.
“Apparently, in this particular case, reliance was made on the information provided in the investigation data form saying that he was connected with Philippine Daily Inquirer. That’s why he never received his copy of the complaint,” Fadullon said in an ambush interview.
GMA News Online reached out to the Office of the City Prosecutor in Davao City and will update this story once a response is received.

“The National Press Club (NPC) strongly condemns the arrest of veteran journalist Philip Lustre Jr., expressing concern over its possible implications for due process, press freedom, and the protection of journalists,” part of the statement reads.
Lustre was arrested for cyber libel under a warrant issued by a Davao City court, which he and his legal counsel allegedly had not been informed of.

“Ang nakakainis d’yan, marami dun sa mga dokumento na iyon shows na ginastos pala ‘yung pera bago pa makuha ‘yung confidential funds. Hindi mo nga alam kung maire-release sa ‘yo ‘yung pera, bakit ka gumagastos? Reimbursement ang peg,” dagdag ni De Leon.

LOOK: The hypothetical tandem of Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo and Senator Raffy Tulfo leads by a narrow margin over Vice President Sara Duterte and Senator Imee Marcos in a non-commissioned pre-election survey for the 2028 presidential and vice-presidential race.
The poll, conducted by OCTA Research, asked 1,200 respondents whom they would vote for between the two hypothetical tandems if the May 2028 elections were held during the survey period from July 4 to 11.
Robredo-Tulfo garnered 45%, while Duterte-Marcos scored 42%, a gap of three percentage points that OCTA Research described as a “statistical dead heat.”

Speaking on #TheSpokes, legal analyst and human rights lawyer Atty. Dino Singson De Leon said Vice President Sara Duterte's high approval ratings should not be mistaken as public opposition to the impeachment trial. He cited survey results showing that 7 to 8 out of 10 Filipinos support allowing the trial to proceed, including the presentation and examination of evidence such as the Vice President's bank records.
De Leon also pushed back against claims that the request to open Duterte's bank records is a "fishing expedition." He said the prosecution had already established probable cause, citing the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) report and allegations of unexplained wealth. He added that a public official's integrity should be viewed as a whole, which is why he believes it is reasonable to examine Duterte's financial records from 2006, when she served as a Court Attorney at the Supreme Court, through her years as Davao City mayor and now as Vice President.
