Look forward to our conversation @iProbal !
Look forward to a riveting session today with @VishnuNDTV on his book ‘The Sky Warriors’ @kslitfest -
1630 hrs, Kasauli Club.
Vishnu has spoken to several pilots and soldiers involved in #OpSindoor and the book is ample proof of the conversations that bring out stories of the men and women who were involved on the frontlines!
Took me less than 88 hours to read this exhilarating account of Op Sindoor.
Join us if you are in Chandigarh or Kasauli today!

So why should you care about this unprecedented rupture in the Election Commission?
BECAUSE being eligible to be enrolled as a voter is no longer enough. In one state, 97 people proved they belonged, the officer agreed, and the software, controlled from Delhi, never let him record it. They're still off the roll.
BECAUSE the reason you trust the voter list is that nobody controls it: thousands of officers do, one constituency each. Centralise the software, and that stops being true.
And BECAUSE the check built to catch this, three Commissioners deciding together, was tried.
But TWO of the THREE say they were kept in the dark on key processes rolled out to revise the rolls.

Kohima ensured the biggest defeat in history for the Japanese Army and damaged its military capability. The British Indian Army, on the other hand, reconquered Burma from the Japanese and regained its confidence.

The battle also brought to the fore the heroism of Nagas, Assamese, Gorkhas, Rajputs, Punjabis and Sikhs, who showcased the syncretic nature of one of the world’s most inclusive armies.
The outcome at the tennis court changed the momentum in the Battle of Kohima.

The Battle of the Tennis Court has been variously described as a grinding, savage, exhausting affair on the unusual and modest battleground of a tennis court.

When the advancing Japanese captured the bungalow on the slope, the defending troops retreated to a higher point on the ridge: the tennis court.
The Japanese pressed hard throughout the night of April 9, as Gorkha, Indian, and British troops occupied hurriedly dug trenches.

In 1944, Garrison Hill in Kohima, Nagaland, was a high ridge which comprised the Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow and a tennis court on its slopes, above a road that connected Dimapur to Imphal.
That tennis court would turn into a milestone of history.

You have again written a terrific book on one of India's great generals.
Gen Sundarji was rebel visionary and I think you captured the full essence of him.
Thank you. I enjoyed reading the book.

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledhr is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake

Tonight at 10 pm on Left, Right and Centre - Am back at Jantar Mantar for another reality check of events. The numbers of protestors are growing this evening. There seems to be complete unanimity that the Education Minister must go - We speak to CJP leaders and protestors - students, children, parents. Where is this movement headed?
Probal DasGupta retweeted
This is utterly appalling. Even in the days of the JP Movement leading up to the Emergency, there was no bar by the @UnivofDelhi on students joining any of his protests, and a couple of members of my Union Cabinet at St Stephen’s, including the late Chandan Mitra, openly did so.
If one of India’s foremost public universities is allowed to threaten its students and faculty with significant consequences if they attend a protest, it has a chilling effect on democratic speech and expression. Most DU students are not so privileged as to ignore such a sternly-worded warning without fearing that their academic or professional prospects might suffer if they attended the protest.
A university is meant to teach critical thinking and independent assessment of issues, not to stifle these very qualities. Shame on those at the @UnivofDelhi who saw fit to issue such a tweet. They are unworthy of holding any position at an institution of higher learning in a democracy.
Dear students and faculty, your safety matters to us. Please note that any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, which are strictly regulated as per the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, may invite legal action. Such activities can also pose serious risks to students’ personal safety and significantly impact their academic progress and professional opportunities. Accordingly, all students are urged to stay away from Jantar Mantar and to prioritise their safety and compliance with the law. Furthermore, you are advised to exercise caution as a significant amount of fake and misleading content is being created and circulated to fuel the situation.
