“A degree gives you a foundation, but competence sets you apart.” Speaking to MUFISA students at a career guidance seminar, Prof. Rachel Mindra Katoroogo emphasised the importance of digital skills, AI literacy, critical thinking, communication, innovation and integrity in navigating a competitive job market. She urged students to turn knowledge into practical solutions and create value in Uganda’s economy.

Earlier today, we (@iLeaduganda) were at @Makerere
hosted by the Guidance and Counselling Centre and @emergingleader_ to integrate values-based leadership training into the peer buddy counselling groups run by the Centre.
Values + Academic excellence = Better life.
Mugabi Erisa, a student of Applied Psychology, appreciated @ileaduganda for the session.
He said, "from today’s program, I actually found that I am not as committed as I have to be. I have learnt that to be committed, you have to focus more on what you want..."
Join us in celebrating teachers for their strategic role in grooming the next generation.
Happy Teachers' Day 2026!

Last night ,we hosted an insightful edition of Tuli Ku Kyooto in partnership with Stanbic Bank Uganda, centered on growing your dimes and building your hustle. The session featured Mr. Israel Arineitwe as the keynote speaker, with Nkuru @nkuruprecious as moderator, and convened students for a practical conversation on financial literacy and entrepreneurship on campus.
Mr. Arineitwe delved into why every student needs money beyond tuition and daily upkeep, noting that financial stability in campus creates freedom and options after campus. He emphasized the need to move from merely spending to multiplying money, urging students to adopt a growth mindset, manage their allowances intentionally, and make their money work for them even while in class.
On saving and investment, he shared actionable principles for students starting with little. These included paying yourself first by saving before spending, separating money for upkeep, business and savings, tracking expenses, and exploring beginner-friendly investment options such as unit trusts and small ventures that solve real campus problems. He stressed that consistency beats amount when it comes to building wealth.
The session concluded with a strong message on the importance of intentional networking as a business asset for students. Mr. Arineitwe challenged students to build meaningful relationships beyond their faculties, adding value before seeking it, as today's coursemates could be tomorrow's clients, partners or referrals. We sincerely thank Mr. Israel Arineitwe and appreciate Stanbic Bank for partnering with us to make the engagement a success.

.@BarbaraKaija speaks to an important topic here: character versus competence.
Skills alone are not enough; employers also want discipline and strong values.
Character formation through values education is not optional but rather a core.

Op-Ed📰 🗞️✍️
What type of graduate does Uganda want?
Most employers, if asked, would say they would rather hire an average performer who is disciplined than a brilliant one who is not. So, as we review and redesign the curriculum around competence, we must resist the temptation to treat Character and Citizenship Education as a footnote. Yes, measuring a values-based curriculum is harder than measuring a skills-based one. Yet it is not impossible, and we can build and refine it patiently, provided we do not leave character formation out altogether.....✍️@BarbaraKaija
