LaTeXML 0.8.7 was just released!
We're ready for #MathML Core.
With gratitude to the wider community, who helped drive another productive year of extending our TeX interpretation fidelity and our LaTeX ecosystem coverage.

I finally launched CoWasm.org. It's kind of like @emscripten, but built using @ziglang, with first class support for both servers and browsers. The main package is @python 3.11, but there are lots of other fun #webassembly ports hidden inside...

Accepting and rejecting papers is an archaic practice that is terrible for science. It strips peer review of its value & institutionalizes the practice of judging scientists based on where, rather than what, they publish. It's time for this system to go.

Manuel Kauers is a cool guy and the title of this paper is incredible. This is the big dunk on a certain other paper that I was expecting to see pretty soon. arxiv.org/abs/2210.04045

For a long time I have had an interest in automatic theorem proving, and have done a small amount of research in the area. I am happy to say that I will soon be stepping up these efforts, thanks to a generous grant from the Astera Institute. 1/

There's a definite bias against seeing 'solid engineering' as a valuable contribution in parts of CS. And math doesn't seem to think that exists at all. [The mathematicians who are now doing formal proof are slowly awakening to the fact that it is really hard.]

Today's SE rant: on value and time horizons. Obviously, on a short time frame, the most valuable artifact of a software endeavour is the code. It's what runs, what you can share with others - it can be what gets you fame and/or money. But what about over the long term?

Thank you! As a 22 year old kid, this is what I wanted to have, but it didn't exist. So I sat down and wrote a library to do that, and was joined by hundreds of like minded people. Together, we made it happen. Too late for me by about 15 years to use at university, but others can!
🧮 Ugh, this is *so nice*!
I sure hope that all Differential Equations textbooks have updated their examples to use SymPy (and if they haven't, they should).
My only nits are that the docs don't go into more complicated examples + PDEs can get gnarly...

A wise man once told me that the only way to demolish a system is to build a parallel one and let the original one die out. So, what do we replace journals and conferences with? They were designed for a different era.

English Lane, a shadertoy loosely inspired by Richard Thorn's paintings and Osamu Tezuka's Jumping among other things, with navigable country paths and vegetation... nature is hard :-)

In an interesting discussion on "What is a type" on the types Zulip, the paper "Several Types of Types in Programming Languages" by Simone Martini came up - hal.inria.fr/hal-01399694. An excellent read on the early history of the ideas in PL.

Thread on the death and rebirth of symbolic computation.
Like @Stephen_Watt I believe that there is a non-trivial difference between Symbolic Computation and Computer Algebra. He's given some nice talks about that, but seems to have never written up a proper paper about it. 1/

Biden has won. And thank goodness for that. BUT, it is the Biden Democrats who have proven time & again their determination to prevent ANY challenge to the power & wealth of the few causing the discontent that is propelling Trumpism. theguardian.com/commentisfre…
