It was a great privilege to speak at this year's @BigSkyDevCon and share the stage with some true legends and awesome projects.
My talk was on the server-driven UI language (hypermedia application markup i.e. HAM) i created and the Hype Apps system to build apps.
Basically you build fancy apps with all the best tools out there for html - utility design, hypermedia controls, reactive local state, complete ui kits -- but you can update them via the server and because its flutter under the hood they run on literally any device.
At the time the showcase app wasn't approved on the app store, but now it is. If you are curious, try this app out. Every bit of it is written in HAM (long press to see the code), and every bit of it loading from my server.

I'd actually love to see more people building small software again.
One PHP file. A bit of HTML. Maybe SQLite. No accounts, no build process, no complicated deployment.
Just a useful little tool that does one job.
Not everything needs to become a SaaS business.
Just had Claude write a custom php patch for an Ubuntu 18 server I can’t upgrade (yet).
I have so little knowledge in this area, and even a month ago I wouldn’t have trusted ai to do it. but opus 55 has earned my trust, brick by brick, feature by feature
Hype apps is going to be the best of both worlds: natively compiled and smooth but fully server driven so you don’t wait on ui updates. Working like crazy to put it out there!

I know everyone is raving about native these days but man web apps still do have few aces up their sleeves.
I present the most unhinged map I have ever seen, with the aerial of what the fields actually look like
phone apps, desktop apps, web apps, apps at a restaurant... just heard someone say they're 'going through apps' and they meant job applications. i'm calling for a total and complete shutdown of things being called apps until we can figure out what is going on
Rails and Laravel and Django are having a well-deserved “moment” right now. Ai makes these battery included frameworks insanely powerful and efficient to work with

As I talk about in the episode linked below: there are more of these jobs than it might appear!

@hypeapps hx-pod.transistor.fm/episode… episode. app built in datastar, no datastar jobs. We are too boring to be called out in a job listing hopefully forever.
This is why I am building Hypermedia Application Markup — ai is very good at reading and writing simple language like html, and hey, so are we!
Using AI as an excuse to move toward lower level languages feels completely backwards to me
“We don’t need to understand all this complexity, AI does” is exactly the wrong direction. Human understanding is required for every functioning software system
The goal should be high level languages with low level performance, not low level languages obscured and incomprehensible having to be explained by a non-deterministic AI translation layer
What we need is even higher level languages optimized for human understanding. That is the modern bottleneck we’re facing right now
The challenge now is to learn these tools without losing sight of what matters in life
