Reviewing someone else’s pre-launch app is a good reminder that you only get one first-time-user brain. Once you know where everything is in your own product, you’re useless at spotting half the confusing stuff. Watching yourself get lost in somebody else’s app is very educational:)

I’ve been reviewing a few projects people from X have sent me lately and I want more of this in my feed. If you’re actively building some small SaaS, game, PHP thing, automation, hardware project or weird tool nobody asked for, say hi. DM me if it's not public yet but need feedback:)

Spent part of today comparing old-school forum software for OSJ. Funny thing is, the feature list barely matters to me. I want threads, categories, search, a database I own and pages Google can actually find. We solved this stuff 20 years ago😂

One thing browser caches get right is being mysterious. The page is faster, but you’ve no idea whether it’s because your code improved or your laptop remembered yesterday. “Have you tried it in a private window?” remains undefeated debugging advice💪

Forums were slower than Discord, but they accidentally built an enormous searchable memory of solved problems. We gained instant conversation and somehow made half the useful answers disappear behind “someone said this in chat six months ago”.

One of my favourite things about running your own sites is looking at the access logs and finding requests that make absolutely no sense. Bots asking for paths that never existed. Ancient user agents. Searches for robots.txt.

I get about 10 requests a week to review or test apps before they get launched. Just gave another X marketing tool(yeah, I know) a go and it was beautiful! It literally took 30 seconds from opening it to understanding what it did AND getting something useful back from it, all before I'm asked for money:) Usually I see long onboarding flows, too many questions, confusing setup, unneeded dashboards. My point is your first job isn't showing me everything your SaaS can do, it's getting me to the "oh, THAT'S useful" moment as fast as humanly possible💪

Remember when websites had a Links page? Just a list of other websites the owner thought were worth visiting. Primitive recommendation algorithm: one human with questionable taste 😂

One thing WordPress still does ridiculously well: you can build a site, hand it to a normal person, disappear for six months and there’s a decent chance they can still edit the bloody thing. Mostly😆

The browser back button might be one of the best bits of UI ever invented. Thirty years later we’re still building websites that somehow manage to make it stop doing what you expected.

RSS is such a beautifully boring piece of technology. A site publishes a feed. Your reader checks it. New stuff appears.

GitHub has now moved github.com completely away from CSS-in-JS and back to CSS Modules. Main reason: performance. Less styling work happening at runtime, more actual CSS shipped with the page. There’s something quite funny about one of the biggest developer sites eventually arriving back at “maybe CSS should be CSS” 😂

Safari 27 now has an MCP server for web development. So Codex/Claude/etc can inspect the actual DOM, network requests, console output and screenshots from Safari instead of you trying to describe what broke💪

What’s one website you still visit by typing the URL directly? No Google. No bookmark. No app. There can’t be many left that have survived long enough to become muscle memory. I'll go first: thep... IYKYK😆

Self hosting makes you appreciate a funny thing: sometimes paying $10/month is actually VERY cheap😂 Then something breaks, you spend Saturday fixing it, learn three useful things and decide self-hosting was still the better option🤷‍♂️

X has apparently started rolling out “X Numbers” for XChat. Basically a private code you can give someone that lets them message you even if they don’t follow you and your inbox is closed. Best bit: you can rotate the number if it leaks without changing your handle. That’s actually a pretty clever idea. Sort of a disposable phone number for your X account. I can’t see the option on mine yet though. Anyone got it?

I love a URL that actually represents where I am. Filters, search, page, item… put it in the URL so I can bookmark it, send it to someone or come back tomorrow. The web got that one right VERY early.
