First and foremost, be wary of the difference between MISinformation and DISinformation. While they can seem interchangeable, the difference lies in the intent. Precise language is important e.g. propaganda can fall under the umbrella of disinformation
ALT Graphic showing the difference between disinformation and misinformation. Disinformation: when people intentionally create false or misleading information to make money, have political influence, or to maliciously cause trouble or harm. Why do people share disinformation? For money, political gain, to cause confusion, or to sow mistrust. Misinformation: when people share disinformation but they don't realize it's false or misleading, often because they're trying to help or want to feel part of a community. Why do people share misinformation? Out of fear and wanting to protect people they care about or to connect with others who are sharing similar information.

As 2021 comes to an end, what is the state of American democracy?
The reactionary counter-mobilization against democracy has accelerated. It’s happening on so many fronts simultaneously that it’s easy to lose sight of how things are connected. Thoughts on the big picture: 1/

You say that it’s fucked that gingerbread men live in gingerbread houses, but to a gingerbread person, gingerbread is as inscrutable and fundamental as carbon. The people and homes are no more alike than humans are to diamonds. Only we, their gods and creators, can see the horror

Three police officers went to an *elementary* school in Tennessee & arrested four Black girls.
One girl fell to her knees. Another threw up. Police handcuffed the youngest, an 8 yo with pigtails.
Their supposed crime? Watching some boys fight — and not stopping them. (THREAD)

American kids watched so much Peppa Pig during the pandemic that they developed British accents and started regularly using British words like “holiday” instead of “vacation,” confusing their parents. 🐷🐽

🔹Identify an "enemy"
🔹Blame the pain on the "enemy"
🔹Present yourself as the strongman able to fight the "enemy"

Saw why Kinkos trending. I'll be honest. I never thought voter ID laws were discriminatory until it affected me when we moved to Indiana close to election time. Rushed to DMV to get our "free" voter IDs. Hubby could get one on the spot. Not me.
