Really happy to teach a session of the @DukeSanford Policy Analysis for Development course @hpostel today for some really accomplished masters students. One thing is clear, @USAID may be destroyed but the hunger for development is not going away.

We are a broken nation. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians were living and working legally, paying taxes, and contributing. Haiti remains completely unsafe.
But Trump hates Haitians, and the White House wanted videos of Black people in chains, so they stripped them all of status.
Haiti TPS has been TERMINATED.
Those with terminated TPS are in our nation Illegally. They have two options: LEAVE IMMEDIATELY or be DEPORTED.

Asian Americans are the fastest-growing racial group in the US. We spoke with @hpostel of @DukeSanford about the history of Asian immigration and how current policy might shape immigration going forward. #ResearchHighlight aeaweb.org/research/asian-im…

A new article in the Journal of Economic Perspectives by DUPRI Scholar @hpostel shows that the trajectory of Asian immigration to the United States has been uniquely and profoundly shaped by over a century of shifting federal policies.

Migration from poor to rich countries leads to massive income gains for migrants + remittances back home. But isn't there a trade-off here with long-run growth in the country of origin?
This new @AEAjournals paper might be the best causal evidence we have, & suggests not
Thrilled to finally get this incredible new book @PrincetonHist @harvardpress
Beth is a brilliant scholar, ridiculously evocative writer, and one of the most thoughtful humans I know.
Also understanding how state and local govs regulated migrant lives is kind of important 🤷♀️

We are sounding the alarm: US humanitarian and refugee leadership - long the backbone of global crisis response - is headed toward total collapse if the Trump/Rubio/Musk cuts are not immediately reversed.
Millions of lives around the world hang in the balance.
🚨BREAKING: Almost 200 former senior-level U.S. government officials released a letter to Congressional leaders today calling on them to act urgently to avert a total collapse in U.S. humanitarian and refugee leadership.

This hasn't gotten enough attention! Over 1,500 students have had their visas revoked on mostly nonsense reasons, with ICE often telling them to leave immediately or be arrested. But then when sued, ICE suddenly started saying they don't have to leave, actually. It IS Kafkaesque!
Bye @AveloAir - never flew you and now never will (even though you're the only provider with direct flights between me and my parents).

NEW: @nytimes reports that the Trump admin is moving to strip hundreds of thousands of immigrants of Social Security Numbers they got when they were granted work authorization, repurposing a "death master file" to try to erase their previous legal presence in the United States.
