This the actual conservative position

The irony is that the deep takeaway of the piece is the capital that her strong family supplied her daughter, yet she explicitly rejects the suggestion that families are what ultimately matter (obviously other things do as well).
The funny thing about nhj piece is just an excuse to deflect away from culture by punching away at the teaching profession. And by culture I don’t mean black culture but the us/them culture that permeates American culture black/white/and other
Nhj is going to everyone even more confident in the same stupid proposals that haven’t worked in the past 30 years

I am just gobsmacked that the woman who gave some dude a handjob at the Beetlejuice musical on their first date would have done this!
A House Ethics complaint alleges Lauren Boebert had sexual relationships with three supervised staffers, violating the post-2018 House rule that bars members from sleeping with their own employees.
It names former District Director Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff (2021–2025), current District Chief of Staff Raven Finegan, and former Chief of Staff Jeffrey Small.
The most detailed claims involve Navarro: encounters in the district office, a reimbursed vehicle, and campaign-paid hotel rooms; taxpayer-funded bonuses; a $5,000 campaign payment listed as “consulting”; and an alleged ~$200K payment in March 2025 after she left and threatened to file.

If there really is a high chance of AI leading to the extinction of humanity within years/decades, then the only rational stance towards safety monitoring and research pacing should be stringent, top-down government involvement and universally ratified international treaties. Similar to what we have been doing for a long time with nuclear energy and nuclear weapons non-proliferation.
If that's not what we're doing, then we must infer that the risk isn't being seriously considered by anyone involved.
There are only two options that make sense here:
1. The near-term species extinction risk is real and we are taking it seriously, with maximally heavy-handed regulation.
2. The extinction risk isn't real, actual risks are mild, so we're only pursuing mild safety measures and self-certification.
But you cannot say "yes this is likely to end humanity in your lifetime, and we're going to completely wing it." That is simply not rational.

In every other industry, the product misbehaving and causing harm (hacking/DoS'ing your competitors) is seen as a *failure* of the industry in controlling its products. The genius of the frontier companies is to make this a *our* rather than *their* problem! – at Tempe, AZ
If you initiate a process that goes out of hand and causes damage, then you should be held responsible for those damages. Period. Even if you didn't foresee those damages! This is as true with "evil AI Agent Swarms" as it was with the Morris Worm (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris…).
“…if Ford automobiles were spontaneously catching on fire, we wouldn’t tolerate the chief executive’s changing the subject to discuss our general lack of preparedness for a future with flying cars. We’d demand that the company address the acute problem happening right now.”
Why are the leaders of AI companies saying "Our products are going to extinguish humanity. Invest in us!" They come from an eccentric Berkeley subculture in which this eschatology is a sacred belief. Good analysis in a NYT op-ed by Cal Newport. nytimes.com/2026/09/05/opini…

I believe we need to make a deliberate effort to keep humans in the loop in all critical processes across our economy and society, regardless of whether it is technically necessary.
Even if AI develops the *capability* for advanced autonomy, we should not make it highly autonomous. We have to maintain control and keep visibility and understanding of all critical processes, we should not blindly hand over everything to AI agents just because we can. AI as a tool in the human hand is the only form of AI that is worth pursuing.
2010s Tech was the first time you could earn an American wage with a European lifestyle and now it’s all gone
My most controversial opinion is that you can argue against the use of the atomic bomb, but you always need to preface within the context of the war crimes Japanese committed

The most effective way to substantiially reduce the cost of housing is to make more affordable areas accessible by transit.
Weird that soccer development is being framed online as a socialist success story when in reality it’s the one narrow domain in which euros are more hyper-capitalistic than us
I do think one point in favor of the American soccer model that isn't coming up much (outside @jaycaspiankang, who wrote a whole book about all this) is the trail of broken boys who get chewed up and spit out by the Euro/Latin academy model, who are left with no education.

I think that’s it, plus genuinely not being able to get a reprieve indoors. Ended up spending an hour in pets at home today because they have really good aircon

If you run the Bayesian calculation you go from an a priori cancer expectation of roughly 0.31% to a posterior expectation of 0.33% from a positive detection.
