the trick is having the courage to live through a chapter you hate without letting it poison your belief in the story. even in the middle of something painful, you can hold onto that deep pull toward what your life could become. so much of life comes down to your ability to keep believing in what you cannot see yet, to keep faith in the story while you’re still living through the parts that make it hard to believe

My advice for the newish interns.
Take responsibility.
The right mentality, nothing will happen unless I do it. Check everything with the source, patient and raw data (labs, imaging reports etc).
Do not trust anyone (sometimes even your attending) and independently verify.

if you’re low on strength, commune with God to restore you. ask for it explicitly. the purer and more direct your appeal, the more vigorous and instant the impact. you have the ultimate trump card at your disposal but you’re too busy believing that you must “only depend on yourself”. this, my brother, is the error of modernity: individualism. the terribly toxic idea that man is his own saviour. I personally stopped depending on myself. my ego is too fragile and emotions too volatile and wisdom too lacking. I depend only on God. and only through His grace do I pass through the bottlenecks and tough times. ask for help. you’ll receive it.
scientists help us understand the world but poets will save it

“There is a big picture that brings it all into relief and my hope is that we can increase empathy and understanding,” says 2026 medicine laureate Karl Deisseroth.
As a medical student, Deisseroth completed part of his training at a psychiatric clinic. He was struck by the patients’ suffering and their need for help. At the same time, he began to wonder how the brain could function so differently from one person to another.
Deisseroth was awarded this year's medicine prize, together with Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel, for discoveries leading to optogenetics – a biological technique making it possible to switch the activity of individual nerve cells in a living brain on or off.
Optogenetics is now helping us understand more about how nerve cells shape memories, emotions and behaviour in the living brain.
