Shout out to my brother @hallsoflearning who’s been leading robotics education in Jamaica for a decade or more. Respect!!
Jamaicans winning gold in the #RoboticsOlympics in Singapore shows how much potential we have in untapped areas! So excited to congratulate these young people! Kudos to their teachers and mentors and Many Thanks to UJAA Pres Wilson and his team for their invaluable support!!

I am proud too! Particularly because this awesome achievement was powered by @hallsoflearning who started the first engineering lab at Mona Prep nearly a decade ago. Watch Johnathan and Shawn-Michael here: youtu.be/eDYNZxfhT68?feature…
I am immensely proud of Team Jamaica! We won the Gold medal for the Katherine Johnson Award for Engineering Documentation in which the team had to demonstrate its robot-building process.

@fayvalwilliams @IamDanaDixon in the event the connections need to be re-energized or info to be shared to bring about greater synergies as I know we had previously engaged with @hallsoflearning !

Imagine what we can achieve if we embrace and support this kind of education across Jamaica! @hallsoflearning with the support of @seprodfdn and #mussonfoundation and others is training teachers and organizing local robotics / math /prob solving competitions for primary & hs.

We missed one! Teammember Duncan Stanley also came to the @hallsoflearning summer camp for four weeks in 2018, which sparked his interest in robotics according to his mom. 🤗

If you're choosing curriculum for a summer program, I implore you to go with a play-based approach. Students don't need to suffer to learn math. In fact, when they're engaged and playing, they learn more, and more deeply. (And yes, we've got one) mathforlove.com/curriculum/

The most obvious question that math teachers should ask themselves is "Why Do I Do Mathematics?". The answer might reveal whether mathematics centres you or you centre mathematics.

10 years ago today, March 2, 2012, @hallsoflearning launched Lego Yuh Mind Day and gave a free Robotics workshop to 500+ high school students. The inside story starts off with @alexisohanian and how he and @xuhulk got us started with the help of @breadpig instagram.com/p/CamuL7wuk3T/

Ask your kids’ teachers to sign up. There are two days left. Root for your alma mater. And give @firstofhall and #mussonfoundation their flowers for their commitment and vision in finding these best in class resources and bringing them to Jamaican kids FOR FREE. (Fin)

But this kind of thinking is also critical for legal reasoning and writing (argument founded on logic - if / then statements) and other professions I’m sure. In short, it’s an awesome opportunity, it’s free, all kids can do it, and all schools should support it (4/n)

This is not a rote memorization test. It’s problem solving, ordering, etc. - the building blocks of coding. Anyone can do it. You don’t have to know how to code. But you have to understand this way of thinking in order to be able to code. (3/n)

The competition is free courtesy of Musson Fdn, and open to kids of all ages. The biggest thing seems to be a coordinating teacher who is interested and motivated. The talent is there. (2/n)
