In recent news we saw that Jamaican Brandon Brown won the gold medal at the World Skills competition in Shanghai in Optoelectronics. Earlier this morning, the Nobel prize was just awarded to 3 researchers in Optogenetics. Is there an β€œOpto” connection? Yes, Optoelectronics is the hardware that makes Optogenetics possible. And Optogenetics is a big breakthrough in neuroscience that helps in understanding and treating brain disorders. Somebody go tell Brandon Brown.

Every year many Jamaican children and their families get drawn into the belief that PEP preparation takes place in addition to regular school. So what is happening in regular school then? And what is happening in the years leading up to each PEP test during regular school?

why didn’t Jamaica participate in this iteration of PISA @MOEYJamaica @IamDanaDixon?

in #jamaica there are at-risk children and at-risk communities. post hurricane Melissa, we can add at-risk buildings, some are residential while others are government buildings, churches and schools. Some of the churches that were destroyed are protected by the national heritage trust act but those protections will need to be revisited.

just did school drop off and as I looked back at the array of desks and chairs and children, it reminded me that teachers do real work. Real work everyday, not for posting on social media, not for favor or votes, just real mf work for 8-12 hours a day and more, to shape the minds of the next generation. Most countries and their societies still don’t assign the work of a teacher its correct financial value. For all the attention and money given to athletes, entertainers, actors and ceos, they stand on the shoulders of their teachers who did, and still do, the lion’s share of the real mf work acting also as mother, father, aunty, uncle, big brother, big sister and cousins to help grow children into useful and successful people.

Why did this strategy work? Real power isn't about being seen in the right rooms. It's about having leverage no one else possesses. Nvidia's chips were essential to America's AI ambitions – Huang knew this.

NO FEES on web transactions. Game over for the Apple Tax. Apple’s 15-30% junk fees are now just as dead here in the United States of America as they are in Europe under the Digital Markets Act. Unlawful here, unlawful there. 4 years 4 months 17 days.
Northern District of California court has ruled on the Epic v Apple anti-steering injunction’s contempt of court proceeding! Details incoming!

The biggest revelation from Deepseek is that Open Source has won. For a 1% difference in performance, it will be difficult for OpenAI to justify its price when the competition is free and formidable. -from my interview with Bloomberg

be not self-conscious, be like children
NEW EPISODE: "The key is to lose self-consciousness. Children are remarkable because they're not self-conscious. They haven't been bombarded by rules and society telling them what to hide. Acting takes discipline, but the goal is to be fully present in the moment." -Adrien Brody
