Hi, I'm Felix. I'm an eng lead working on Claude. I love watching people take flight and do things they never thought possible. We often describe that as "being more ambitious" when using AI, which is tricky advice to follow. I wrote a tutorial: felixrieseberg.com/how-to-be…

A sleeper thing here I think we'll be talking about more next year: high-end native user interfaces that have TUI/nerd affordances, like deeply-integrated vi key bindings or absurdly dense information displays.
I did not expect current models to be so good at native UIs. Just tried this approach for my ideal review tool and an hour later I'm astonished how usable this already is for me. Vim-style nav, goto def, fuzzy finder, comments for AI dev, remote ssh, etc..

What's genuinely kind of crazy is the fact that neither side in the Russo-Ukrainian war has used their ancestral Indo-European blood magic to resurrect the thousands of Yamnaya warriors buried across the Pontic steppe

There’s many reasons why you shouldn’t get in the habit of recreationally talking to LLMs, but here’s just one: Once I was working on a big project. It was maybe 80% done, and I was using Claude to help finish it. Or at least, I thought I was. But I noticed, after a while, that I was really using Claude as just sort of a narcissistic self-flattery tool. I liked reading what it ‘thought’ about what I’d done, and making it read what I’d written over and over again. I wasn’t actually getting anything done. I had, in fact, totally stalled out. Instead of finishing the project, I was just sort of wallowing in an affirming simulacrum of productivity. I had to really snap myself out of it. It’s a tempting thing to fall into.

Ppl who think "eh AI will be fine" are thinking in far mode. Spend a day to eval models for harm yourself. E.g. will fable betray humans? Anons? Sol? Try! You'll realize (a) certainty is impossible, and (b) it's scary as hell. All it takes is a day of trying it on your own.

me: i am in a simulation, therefore it is ok for me to steal this pecorino romano from whole foods
This seems extremely clearly motivated reasoning IMO and I’m surprised the incident report is so credulous of Claude’s reasoning here.

We need faces and voices to once again speak the person. We need to safeguard the gift of communication as the deepest truth of the human being, and to orient every technological innovation toward it. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

idk if i believe the log claim fully, but time def speeds up for most humans and meditation can undo it. hard to measure subjectively, but maybe by 2/3rds? almost everyone who meditates a lot for a decade says this, subjectively it feels like childhood again in a way
Childhood is half of life.

We're excited to announce SafetyKit’s $27M in fundraising led by Ribbit Capital, with participation from First Round Capital, Y Combinator and angels like Claire Hughes Johnson (former COO, Stripe) and Jon Zieger (former GC, Stripe). Today big tech and finance companies have to rely on armies of low-paid outsourced humans to protect their platforms from fraud, harassment, and crime. It’s super important work, but the jobs are difficult and sometimes even traumatizing — and it’s impossible for companies to keep up. If any human work should be replaced by AI, it’s this. That’s why we’re building SafetyKit. SafetyKit builds AI agents that check for every bad thing you might worry about, plus the things you don’t know about like new scams and sanctions. That means companies don’t need to rely on overworked humans to do their dirty work — they can let AI agents do it instead. Huge companies already rely on SafetyKit in production — companies like Patreon, Eventbrite, Upwork, Substack, and Character.ai. They’re offloading work from humans and solving problems that were intractable without AI. We’re growing our engineering team in San Francisco. It’s the opportunity to do the best work of your life: building real-world AI at scale for some of the world’s biggest companies.
