NEW: Haringey council has been sending panicked emails and calls to several of the stakeholders it hadn't consulted, apologising for the oversight and asking for feedback on the deal. Labour has pushed back the deal-signing from today to tomorrow.
NEW: 11 Green cllr candidates in Haringey have urged the Labour council not to lease Finsbury Park to Festival Republic for another 5 years. "The park is a public asset and a statutory trust for recreation, not a 'cash cow' to be leased out behind closed doors," they wrote.

Trees - like AC for outdoors.
“Perhaps because we’ve become so adept at cooling inside spaces with air conditioning, we’ve forgotten the importance of cooling outside spaces, too. There is no technology that cools the outdoors as effectively as a tree.” theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…

Keir Starmer’s Camden Council will try on Monday to ban all activity by residents on ‘international issues’ in an attempt to stop deputations, petitions, protests about Palestine. It is doing this because it doesn’t want those of us who fund the Council to be able to object to its tens of millions of £ invested in companies that enable apartheid, occupation & genocide. The Council is as undemocratic & authoritarian as our MP, their Supreme Leader, Keir Starmer. We will not be deterred & we will never forget & never forgive Camden Council & Keir Starmer’s complicity

Hundreds of trees have been felled for a road widening scheme in north Plymouth. Despite that, an application is in, in the same area to fell 27 mature trees, covered by a TPO to build a new showroom for a car dealership! This is not essential and the harm cannot be justified.

🧵Just tried to pop into my library & it's closed. Again. @haringeylibrary service is in chaos. But guess what? Library boss Brian Mihayo wins award for'transforming' our libraries! Did he miss the memo that libraries have to actually be open to class as 'vibrant community hubs?'

🙄🙁🤔haringey.gov.uk/news/2024050… @MichaelRosenYes @Clive_Carter @ekarkell @alexworre11 #rebelborough How does this sit with being awarded London Borough of Culture 2027? Not good optics for young and upcoming writers? @perayahmet @HaringeyLibDems

My books are due back @stroudgreenlibrary but it's closed again due to staff shortages. One of the many dismal decline-in-service issues, ahead of closing our library 2 days a week. Is this really the borough of culture? @perayahmet @MichaelRosenYes @haringeylibrary @alexworre11

theguardian.com/news/article… Stroud Green library is a warm space for homeless, disadvantaged & those with mental health issues. @haringeycouncil seem to not know this & will close it 49% of the week. @perayahmet @MichaelRosenYes @mikehakata @alexworre11 @haringeylibrary Scandalous.
