🔥🛢️BREAKING: The Lukoil oil refinery in Perm, approximately 1,500 km from the Ukrainian front line, was struck overnight in another long-range drone attack. The refinery is one of Russia’s largest, with a processing capacity of 13.1 million tonnes of oil per year. Multiple large fires are visible across the refinery, with massive columns of smoke rising over the facility and spreading across the city. Ukrainian long-range strikes against Russia’s oil-processing infrastructure continue.

it's really ironic that only people in education think that educating kids is a bad idea
Replying to @NielsHoven
It's not developmentally appropriate for a child to learn individual letters at 2½ or 3, says Susan Neuman, a professor of childhood and literacy education at New York University (4/n)

Ningde: the Dawn of China's NOAK Nuclear Era NOAK means "Nth-of-a-Kind". In nuclear lingo, it means a design standardized for mass production. One plant in China that perfectly captures this concept is Ningde Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). I visited it last weekend. 🧵

The "let's price everything in gold equivalents" people are so weird. Why not just compare what that income can buy in real goods and services like cars, houses, food, clothing, furniture, etc?
In 1971, the U.S. government closed the “gold window” and began ruthlessly debasing the dollar. At the time, the median household income was a little over $9,000, which was worth about 258 ounces of gold. Today, the median household income is hovering around $87,000, which is worth less than 20 ounces of gold. That's the affordability crisis in a nutshell.

Whether new large loads (including but not limited to data centers) make consumer electricity bills go up or down depends entirely on the specifics of the situation. slowboring.com/p/avoiding-a-…
This week in “data centers raise your bill:” - Georgia Power: Residential savings go from $102/yr to $180/yr by 2029 - PG&E: 4th rate cut in 2 years, down 11% since 2024 - Indiana Michigan asks regulators for a rate reduction All cite data center growth as the reason.

The ultimate blackpill comes when one accepts that there is no saving the bottom 10% of society, and the goal of every ambitious and smart person is to become affluent enough to completely insulate themselves and their families away the permanent underclass.
I always wonder what people in Asia think about seeing 5,000 videos of America like this.

This meme is very funny given that every time Xi Jinping is in Latin America he’s like “you guys are so poor because you have too much welfare, which makes you gay and lazy”

The DSA wanting the total control of all major industries by the government but also an extremely representative parliamentary system with super unstable coalition-building is hilarious They want Communist 5-year industrial plans managed by an unchecked parliament with all the stability of the Israeli Knesset. Can't wait to have the House of Representatives control the entire construction industry during a period of coalitional instability where we have 7 prime ministers in 10 years. Should be an exciting time. There's a reason actually existing state control of all major industries always winds up being a dictatorship - you cannot do that if the government is constantly changing. What if a new government comes in, doesn't like Communism, and privatizes industry again? Are you just gonna seize everything again the next time you take power? These people are just such fucking stupid children. They don't know how anything works.

Consent of the governed requires the ongoing freedom to grant, withhold, or revise it. Constitutions that permanently enshrine one party's leading role and ban genuine opposition were produced under that same monopoly. Without competitive options at the founding or afterward, the legitimacy claim becomes circular.

What's funny is that China basically took out a trillion dollars in loans to build HSR, and actually owes more money than it took to build the system in the first place. At least the US highway system has mostly already been paid for with gas and use taxes.

Why do you morons think you should get to decide who Platner’s replacement is when it’s your fault we were saddled with a low IQ subhuman rapist in the first place?
I am withdrawing my endorsement of Graham Platner and calling on him to exit the race immediately so that he can be replaced by a progressive fighter who will deliver for the people and help win back the Senate. These allegations are devastating and must be taken seriously.
