At work it seems to be increasingly true that Geoff does stuff, IT is great.

Sometimes I wonder why people follow my Twitter account and what they expect. You might all be disappointed, but I will continue with a mix of technology, random and cryptic stuff, so bear with me and enjoy!

Always worth listening to @mer__edith in my opinion
Meredith Whittaker is the president of Signal, one of the world’s most prominent encrypted messaging apps. She has also been called one of the most powerful women in AI, and has ridden through the ranks within the tech world. 🎧 bbc.in/4rYI4rl

Note to self, be more deliberate and intentional about listening to music, take time to make it the main thing, and enjoy it

"Connecting you to live agent right now!" - excellent, but is there an alternative to a "live" agent?

You find yourself thinking ooh, I like the music here and then realise it's Down Under by Men at Work, which was relased a couple of years ago, right? Right!

Our statement on the UK government’s demand that all content on all devices sold or used in the country be scanned, on the presumption of nudity, using a dystopian combination of age verification and content scanning. This proposal will not safeguard children. It endangers us all. signal.org/blog/pdfs/2026-06…

There's something quite nice about looking up out of the sunroof of my car and watching the rain fall down towards me, but staying dry

I have just found a photo of me and five colleagues from January 2024, of the 6 of us, one has retired and two have moved on, so only half left! A reminder of the slow and continual change....

This cannot be repeated enough. Not just because it’s true, but because when people believe the lie that Telegram is private and secure, they can put themselves and the people they communicate with in danger.
Founder of @signalapp, @moxie Marlinspike on Telegram:   "Telegrams not a private messenger. There's nothing private about it. It's the opposite. It's a cloud messenger where every message you've ever sent or received is in plain text in a database that telegram the organization controls and has access to it" "It's like 'Russian oligarch starts unencrypted version of WhatsApp', a pixel for pixel clone of WhatsApp. That should be kind of a difficult brand to operate. And somehow, they've done a really amazing job of convincing the whole world that this is an encrypted messaging app and that the founder is some kind of Russian dissident, even though he goes there once a month, the whole team lives there, and their families are there." " What happened in France is they just chose not to respond to the subpoena. And so that's in violation of the law. And, he gets arrested in France, right? And everyone's like, oh, France, but I think the key point is they have the data, like they can respond to the subpoenas where as Signal, for instance, doesn't have access to the data and couldn't respond to that same request.  To me it's very obvious that Russia would've had a much less polite version of that conversation with Pavel Durov and the telegram team before this moment.
