Hi X world! This might sound crazy but today we publish in @NatureMedicine a paper showing that neurostimulation can revert motoneuron dysfunction produced by a neurodegenerative disease! @scottensel@dona_sere @DrRFriedlander@ElviraPirondini @MCapogrosso

Hello! We are hiring a postdoc to lead a first-in-human clinical trial of Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) in children with Cerebral Palsy (CP)! Here for more information: rnel.pitt.edu/postdoctoral-r…
We will combine neurostimulation, computational modeling and human electrophysiological experiments to understand the emergence of motor deficits in CP and how SCS can improve this deficits. Come to RNEL is a great place to do science! rnel.pitt.edu/
Hey that's me! Very happy that our Spinal Cord Stimulation for Spinal Muscular Atrophy study has been selected for a Top10 Clinical Research achievement award! We will continue working to develop an SCS therapy for people living with SMA. Thank you to all the team!
Genís Prat-Ortega of #PittMed has been honored with a 2026 Top 10 Clinical Research Achievement Award for pioneering spinal cord stimulation research in spinal muscular atrophy.

Sometimes we forget science is also the people we meet and work with. This paper will forever remember me the amazing group of friends I've met in Fribourg and all the good memories we built together.

Our brain-to-voice synthesis brain-computer interface paper was published in @Nature today! This neuroprosthesis synthesized the voice of a man with ALS instantaneously, enabling him to ‘speak’ flexibly and modulate the prosody of his BCI-voice. 1/7

With this work we demonstrate that neurotechnology can be tailored to change single neuron properties thereby improving motoneuron function in a human motoneuron disease. This opens totally new avenues for the therapeutic use of neurotechnologies in neurodegenerative diseases 1/2

Years ago, I brought the idea to @MCapogrosso and @DrRFriedlander that SCS could restore function in neurodegen. disease. We did a study to find out. Today, it’s published! Congrats to the team & deep gratitude to the patients. nature.com/articles/s41591-0…
The real heroes of this study are our participants. Even though they knew this was only a temporary implant, they stopped their lives, moved to Pittsburgh and worked with us for a couple of months! I am so glad that I had the chance to meet them. Thank you so much!
This has been a real team effort with all the coauthors! Special thanks to @smafoundation and @SMAEurope for their advice and encouragement and F. Hoffmann–La Roche for supporting this study with an exploratory research grant @Roche @genentech.
