What I’ve found in my dabbling (and it is very compelling…I’ve had to fight to keep myself out of it) is that the argument becomes the product I’m selling, not a conversation or a quest for truth. Extending the argument forever becomes in both parties best interests. The only thing thing that matters is whatever my opponent said last. You just dig deeper and deeper, and you always feel like you’ve won, but you’re actually always driving people deeper into their pre-conceived sides. Empathetic, thoughtful conversation can convince and find truth, but it can’t happen with hot-button issues in public forums because the goal is never to listen and empathize, it is to win. And the side that does the most listening and is the most empathetic is the side that is losing in the format of a debate.

I have personally deleted more lines of code than I have written in my career, by far. I imagine that’s true for other folks as well. So anyway, if we’re going by LOC, I’m a really terrible engineer and you shouldn’t hire me unless you want negative productivity.

Anyone else have a random alarm go off on their phone at 1:00am? Seems like a daylight savings time bug. I'm on a Pixel 6a on Android 13.

Once a year, for a rare moment at 7:15 AM EDT on July 8th, 99% of the world's population will be in the Sun. About 6.4 billion people in the daytime, while more than 1.2 billion people experience twilight. How cool is that! Source: earthsky.org

Today @pmarca was asked by @tylercowen to explain a Web3 use case. I clipped this gem from 28:08 of Conversations With Tyler. Highly recommended...

To recap: Police claim they shoot unarmed black children because they "fear for their lives" but police also claim they do not shoot armed gunmen killing children because they "fear for their lives."

Trevor Noah: I love the New York Times, you guys are the best. You're some of the most accurate reporting in news. You never fail to write down *exactly* whatever the police have told you to say. Really powerful. 💀💀💀 #WhiteHouseCorrespondentsDinner

Tired of having to collectively stress about what explosion of hate crimes is happening bc some billionaire with an ego problem unilaterally controls a massive communication platform and skews it because Tucker Carlson or Peter Thiel took him to dinner and made him feel special

Immigration is America's superpower, so this should be raising alarm bells for policymakers: The United States is no longer the top choice of foreign talent when asked where they would move for work.
