ALT A statement from The American Outlaws to U.S. Soccer regarding the FIFA Forward plan: The FIFA Forward scheme treats our sport as an asset instead of a cultural institution. Gianni Infantino seems to have a case of Mistaken Identity: he thinks he’s the owner of FIFA and has the right to sell it. He couldn’t be more wrong. Soccer was born in the working-class communities, gaining strength because of its accessibility. This plan would fell the foundation of the beautiful game by removing fans and players and replacing us with unchecked commercialization. The American Outlaws implore U.S. Soccer to reject this proposal. Stand up to this gross overreach of greed. It will not be good for the fans. It will not be good for the sport. Soccer belongs to the people who play it, support it, and pass it from one generation to the next — not to private equity. Protect our sport from those who think they can own it.
