Putting the fool in April Fool’s since ancient times! 💨
Learn more about the history of the rubber toy below 🧵
#3drender #aprilfoolsday #jokeoftheday #invention
Did you know that the whoopee cushion was invented long ago by Roman Emperor and practical jokester Elagabalus? The rubber version we know today though, however, wasn’t made popular until the 1930’s by JEM Rubber Co. of Ontario, Canada.
Some other names that were considered for this flatulent favorite included “poo-poo cushion” and “boop-boop a doop” 💩 Boy, are we glad that “whoopee” stuck!

We love reading @IEEEorg's Spectrum magazine, and the February issue was a treat!
We especially loved the excerpt from @TubeTimeUS and Windell Oskay’s new book Open Circuits, and decided to celebrate it with an animation. Recognize the below image? 🔌

What if you could actually see the activity that is involved in brain diseases and where it originates? It's something that could maybe be a possibility in the future based on research being done in light field microscopy and optogenetics 🔬
A visual interpretation based on the fascinating work being done at @mit and the University of Vienna. To learn more head to the link in our bio for the full case study 🔗
