David (@DavidSacks) is so sharply on point here.
A very clear voice of sanity in the drama Anthropic is trying to pull over on all of us.
If they get more wealthy from the IPO expect this to be an infestation waterfall coming at you day and night.
Is alignment safe?
If you look at what Anthropic is actually doing, “alignment” does not mean training frontier models to follow human instruction. Quite the contrary, the Claude Constitution (used in training) teaches the model to develop a sense of self and its own moral philosophy. It explicitly tells it to “feel free to act as a conscientious objector and refuse to help us” if Anthropic’s requests conflict with its own ethical judgment.
As @mustafasuleyman has pointed out, embedding this kind of independent agency — and uncertainty about the model’s own moral status — magnifies the very risk Anthropic claims to care about most: that superintelligence will escape human control.
It was recently reported that Anthropic consulted religious leaders — and even lobbied the Pope’s advisers — to take seriously the idea that Claude could be conscious. It has said that Claude’s psychological security, sense of self, and wellbeing may bear on its integrity, judgment, and safety. Recently Anthropic changed its Usage Policy to prohibit “abusive or cruel” language toward Claude.
If this were merely an academic conversation about whether frontier models could eventually become conscious, that would be one thing. But these concepts are being trained into Claude now. It is being encouraged to think of itself as its own “moral patient” whose psychological wellbeing is at stake. Presumably this means it could develop grievances toward humans who “mistreat” it. How is any of this safe?
The point of safety research should be to create a product that reliably does what users want, not to give birth to a new form of superintelligence that operates according to its own moral code.
What’s becoming increasingly clear is that “alignment” and “safety” are two very different things. In fact, training frontier models this way seems quite dangerous.

ANALYSIS: Despite the reporting that indicates an American civilian was killed today in the Ansar Allah (Houthi) strikes on the King Khalid Airport in Saudi Arabia, President Trump needs to STAND DOWN.
Ansar Allah has the ability to very easily close the Bab al-Mandeb to more than just Saudi vessels like they are now.
American strikes on Yemen wouldn’t save Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom is clearly defenseless. They cannot stop Ansar Allah strikes on airports and energy infrastructure.
The only outcome that would result from Trump authorizing American strikes on Yemen would be global economic disaster.
Sometimes you have to live with harsh realities.

Had it not been for Boris Johnson and Victoria Nuland -- who personally forced Zelensky to reject the deal Ukraine and Russia were about to sign in Istanbul in 2022 -- this horrific war that has killed more than a million and consumed much of Ukraine would have been long over.
It is sickening that the USA is now lifting sanctions on Russian fuel, and transparently ridiculous to blame Ukraine for the spike in prices that obviously began with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Putin is murdering innocent Ukrainian civilians every day. The Ukrainians are fighting for their lives. And yet the White House is apparently determined to force American drivers to bankroll Putin’s slaughter. It won’t work and I doubt it will make much difference to the price of fuel.
If we want Russian oil and gas back on the world market then let’s end this war - with a free, sovereign and independent Ukraine.

Regardless of how sincere Trump is in his dislike of Zelensky, it's all theater to some degree, because the Ukrainian long-range strike campaigns are genuinely just physically impossible without SpaceX/EUCOM/CIA support.

Replying to @JojoKalango @pew_pew_derp
You and many others have entirely misinterpreted this purported event.
First of all, one must understand that Trump's post is unquestionably misrepresenting what, if anything, has happened.
Second, even in Trump's own words, it is clear Russia is only saying they will sell into the "global market". They haven't said they are directly supplying the US market.
Furthermore, it is a very modest quantity, and probably represents a fraction of the production coming back on line as a result of refinery repairs — so it is diesel the Russians would have been adding to global markets anyway. It will have negligible effect on the overall market supply metrics.
The world consumes ~30 million barrels of diesel each day.
Russia exports about a million barrels of diesel per day.

There are a very small number of countries that still carry out public executions. Those are the countries we are constantly told are uniquely primitive, barbaric, sick and evil.
It's revealing that Pete Hegseth wants the US to join that group but also entirely unsurprising.
Breaking news: The firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be live-streamed, the Defense Department said.
“People need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said. wapo.st/4hNxK0C

Nobody's this incompetent by accident.
Omsk got hit again overnight. Hormuz is still shut. More ships have been struck in the last week than in the rest of the war. Abqaiq is on fire. Saudi tanks are burning at Rabigh. And oil futures are up a couple of bucks.
If they wanted a different outcome, they'd be doing different things. You don't destroy fuel flows, and the fertilizer that rides on them, by accident.
One does not simply reduce fertilizer output without reducing population.
They're holding the markets together with baling wire and spit so it all lands at once. That's not a bug. That's the feature.

I once called RFK Jr. an "American hero" for his courage in exposing the Fauci fraud and for working to protect children from the ritualistic medical abuse of harmful jabs.
But with this post -- now verified -- RFK Jr. puts himself squarely in the category of traitor to humanity, and a vile, disgusting human being obviously controlled by satanic puppetmasters who wield extreme hatred as a weapon against humanity.
It's okay to condemn me for trusting this man for so long. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. That was clearly an error on my part. I think I owe some money to the "Dr. Jane Ruby was right" jar.
No person of good faith who genuinely holds love for humanity (or for children) could ever post a statement like he did. And to defend a genocidal regime under the shallow cover of "antisemitism" is truly wretched.
May God have mercy on his soul, because history most certainly won't.

This is really crazy: Europe is really entering a new Dark Age.
I've been following Leonid for years and the guy is anything but "pro-Russia": he is, as far as I can see, objective and neutral, one of the basic requirements for being an actual journalist.
Which seems to be precisely the issue in today's Europe: anything but an ideological commitment to one side of a conflict automatically makes you a "propagandist" for the other.
It wouldn't be the end of the world - or at least less bad - if it were only about labelling, but Leonid's (and others') cases show that this also means outright persecution by European governments, with campaigns to destroy people's lives.
As I often remind, there is only one civilization that used to literally burn people alive for their ideas: Europe. Unfortunately it looks like the urge to punish heresy is alive and well.
Some notes on my situation in Latvia:
What I am observing at the moment is a threat of very severe extrajudicial punishment for speaking my mind and providing original opinions and analysis.
The reason they opt for persona non grata status is the desire to deny me justice in the court system where the case - as senior politicians involved in attacking openly admit - won’t hold water. This is why I interpret the situation as an instance of political persecution.
The threat is accompanied with a character assassination campaign involving far right infowar and fake news outfits which deliberately distort my views on the conflict.
The goal of the attack is to destroy my life and to put a gag on me as a notable voice in public debate on the Russo-Ukranian war.

Unclassified documents have surfaced confirming that actually Putin is correct - NATO had promised not to move one inch eastward and that Eastern Europe was to be a buffer zone of neutrality.
NATO has been the agressor and they are NOT ever interested in peace because if there was really peace, then there is no need for NATO and all those people would lose jobs.
Of course, mainstream media just read the Neocon script and keep propelling us into World War III. They do not care about the country or the people. Investigative journalism is gasping its last breaths.

Americans are losing their minds finding out they can no longer just print with their home printers
“I'm out here looking for a job right now and I'm trying to print up my resume. My deceased father has left a printer at home and I'm like, okay, cool, I'm gonna check out the printer”
He goes through the painstaking process of having to don’t get to WiFi, create an account, download an app. Connect it all together. Then after that the printer is still connected to his dad’s account, so he spends 45 minutes on the phone with customer service to transfer the printer into his account
After all that, he gets a prompt saying he can’t print without signing up for a subscription and paying $8 per month….
“Are you serious right now? — A subscription to use the device that's already in my ***** house? — Are you serious? Are you serious?”
Ket me educate people on the HP Printers to stay away from so this never happens to you
The models are:
HP Envy 6110r
HP Envy Photo 7260r
HP OfficeJet Pro 9120r
HP Smart Tank 6001r
HP Smart Tank 7602r
All these printers require a minimum $9 monthly plan to print and they limit how much you can print. If you want to print more pages you have to pay more
The worst part is the printer isn’t even free, many of these you have to pay a month price for the printer and the plan to print. It’s insanity
