Once you understand LLMs are language calculators, you can no longer be taken for a narrative spin about "AI." 4 + legs = ? If you said cat or zebra, congratulations, you've performed a probabilistic language calculation. LLMs are a simple technology packaged in layers and layers of anthropomorphic marketing. A calculator takes an input and presents an output. To assign sentimentality to a calculator having self-affection or comprehension for its output is delusion on a level I have not ever seen before. I have no doubt we will perfect this calculator to the limit of its inherent perfectability. But it will never be anything more than a dumb calculator.

crazy how much worldviews can diverge depending on whether you think "everything should be free" vs "everything should be shockingly, absurdly cheap"

The first problem with socialism is that it requires capitalism to generate the wealth it wants to spend. The second problem with socialism is that the more it spends, the less wealth capitalism can generate to feed it.

you shipped but have you looked inside the codebase? have you pondered the whimsical nature of the code you are about to refactor? the many mistakes leaving the fingertips of every software engineer who didn't care about the performance or architecture - just close the ticket; nobody will care, nobody has ownership, others will handle it when it fails and it will fail, it will be other people's problem yet the same software engineer will open an app on his phone to distract himself from the horrors against the compiler he just shipped, the app will crash and he will wonder how come the software is so trash everywhere but deep down they know, everyone knows

Abstraction (programming) is meant to be a compression algorithm. If it's not going to reduce lines of executable code, don't do it.

Devs, be honest: Importing a library, integrating a microservice or leveraging an external API does not reduce your project's LoC (lines of code). It explodes your LoC while reducing the portion of LoC you get to edit.

I'll always suspect the world moved from SVN to git for mostly non-technical, cult-of-personality reasons.
push it, pull it, clone it, fix it, switch it, diff it, add, commit it cherry-pick it, fetch it, fork it, squash it, branch it, quick rebase it log it, stash it, pop it, show it, merge it, move it, quick reset it patch it, stage it, blame it, tag it, branch it, prune it, stop, ignore it

Carnivorous moralists have to pretend other animals prefer to be slaughtered and eaten than molested. It's incredibly entertaining to walk them into pretending out loud.

Capitalists Are Public Benefactors Capitalists, especially large capitalists, use the overwhelming bulk of their wealth (often ninety-five percent or more) to produce for the benefit of other people, who are almost always total strangers to them. These other people are the capitalists’ customers. In the process, the capitalists employ scores of millions of people to help them in their work, and who, because the capitalists must not only pay them but must compete for their labor, are enabled to be customers of capitalists throughout the economic system and thereby determine through, as Mises put it, “their buying and abstention from buying,” what it is profitable or unprofitable for the capitalists to produce. Leftists/Socialists appear not to understand any of this. They seem unaware of the fact that the wealth of the capitalists is employed in the production of products that go to others. Rather, they think of it as being of benefit only to the capitalists and wish for it to be taxed away. Note: You can obtain a free copy of the pdf version of Reisman’s Capitalism: A Treatise on Economics by clicking on the link below. Please do so and feel free both to forward the link to others and to post it on your website if you have one. Code does not suffer entropy in a closed system. Entropy is only inevitable at interfaces between systems.

The idea that socialism is about “the workers owning the means of production” is one of the most successful lies ever sold. In practice, socialism always means the state owns the means of production, and the workers are just tools of the state. They don’t own. They don’t control. They don’t even get to choose. The state decides what to produce, who gets what, where you work, and how much you deserve. “Worker ownership” becomes a euphemism for bureaucratic control enforced by threat of violence. Socialism doesn’t liberate the worker. It nationalizes them.

Capitalism is the only system that treats people as ends in themselves rather than as tools for someone else’s vision of the “greater good.” It’s rooted in voluntary exchange, the idea that you can only succeed by offering others something they freely choose because it makes their lives better. That’s not cold or ruthless, it’s the deepest form of empathy: to see another person not as a mouth to feed or a burden to carry, but as a thinking, choosing individual whose needs and values matter enough that you work to meet them better than anyone else. In capitalism, the baker rises at dawn not because a bureaucrat orders it, but because he knows the neighborhood wants fresh bread. The doctor sharpens her skills not because the state commands it, but because her patients trust her with their lives. Every act of production is an act of listening to what others want, what they dream of, and what they’re willing to trade for. Contrast that with socialism, communism, or any collectivist scheme. These systems strip away choice and replace it with force. They pretend to care for “the people” while treating individuals as interchangeable cogs. You don’t ask someone what they value, you decide it for them. You don’t earn their trust, you demand their compliance. And when the outcome is disappointment or scarcity, there is no way to walk away or seek better. Empathy is replaced with orders, and compassion is replaced with rationing. Real compassion isn’t giving people what you think they need, it’s creating the conditions where they can choose, thrive, and live for their own sake. Capitalism doesn’t just allow that, it demands it. It’s the marketplace of empathy, where success depends on making someone else’s life better without ever taking away their freedom to decide what “better” means.

GPT-5 is like a box of chocolates. You never know which model you'll get. "GPT-5" is a router, not a model. It's incentivized to route you to the shittiest model it thinks can fulfill your request.

Socialism is the politics of envy. Socialists say that capitalists are greedy. But socialists seem to be much more worried about how much money other people have than capitalists.

Capitalism has been so successful at eradicating poverty, hunger, and hardship that it gave rise to a generation utterly detached from the realities of production, trade, and effort. They’ve grown up in comfort, surrounded by abundance, and instead of gratitude, they respond with resentment, as if wealth is the natural state of things and capitalism is just getting in the way of even more. In any other era, these people would be forced to confront the consequences of their delusions. But capitalism, in its brilliance, has created so much surplus that even the most useless ideologues can eat well, live long, and tweet their hatred for markets from devices built by free enterprise. It’s the spoiled child biting the hand that feeds him, not out of hunger, but because he’s been fed too well for too long. They hate capitalism not because it failed, but because it succeeded so thoroughly that it protected them from ever having to grow up.
