For the first time since 2010, the number of people living in multidimensional poverty has increased.
Our latest Global Multidimensional Poverty Index, published today, shows 1.2 billion people living in multidimensional poverty. More than half are children.
Yet 33 countries have halved poverty in under 15 years.
Progress is possible. This is no time to retreat.

A history-maker on the bike, Biniam is now @UNDPEritrea’s National Goodwill Ambassador for climate action and youth empowerment.
Great conversation about teamwork, leadership and inspiring the next generation.

Tourism is a powerful engine of development.
More jobs. Stronger local businesses. More opportunities for communities worldwide.
Today, UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais and I signed a new agreement.
Together, @UNDP and @UNWTO will work to make tourism more sustainable, inclusive and beneficial to local communities.

The Middle East crisis is driving up food, fuel and debt costs for families across the region and the developing world.
Today I sat down with @UN DSG @AminaJMohammed and Member States on our development response.
The countries hit hardest cannot be left to absorb the shock alone.

Having just returned from a visit to three Pacific Islands, the long lingering effect of this crisis was clearly evident.
For many of these small island nations, dependence on imported fuel leaves economies highly vulnerable to global oil and gas price shocks.
This shake-up is a reminder that the energy transition is about resilience, energy security, and safeguarding progress, while also reducing emissions.
A @UNDP_Pacific visual explainer shows why the transition must happen with urgency! go.undp.org/GLX

Spoke to Steve Lai of @BBCNewsAsia on the urban impact of the Mideast conflict on Asia Pacific countries.
With $73B GDP loss estimate by year-end and 4M urban workers already jobless, this is where the hit has been hardest.
We are also seeing nations and regional 'neighborhoods' securing energy supplies and looking to be more energy secure.
