Important - and not just for those of us with proud Moroccan Jewish roots. The new Museum of Moroccan Jewish Culture opened its doors in the city of Fez on Monday, marking the first time in history that an Arab Muslim country has allocated public funds to establish a museum entirely dedicated to Jewish culture.
"The new Museum of Moroccan Jewish Culture opened its doors in the city of Fez on Monday, marking the first time in history that an Arab Muslim country has allocated public funds to establish a museum entirely dedicated to Jewish culture. The museum offers a rich and diverse collection of ritual and everyday objects; archaeological, ethnographic, and artistic artefacts; archives and rare manuscripts; crafts; along with traditions, practices, and testimonies handed down through the 2,500 years of Jewish history in the country."

This is the con: States provide some 85 percent of funding for schools, not the federal government. So not your federal tax dollars. Foreign aid percentage of GDP accounts for less than .50% of GDP with military - peace and security assistance hitting about 36% of that .50 of GDP. This isn’t about funding anything domestically. This is about an ancient trope that seeks to target Jews, and a modern philosophy that seeks to make those who wish to harm America and Americans stronger. It is not America First or even Michigan first. It’s simply anti.
A new El=Sayed ad uses the war in Iran to push a "Michigan First" message. Ends with quote from Detroit Free Press: "views foreign policy through an America-first lens"

Replying to @NYCMayor
This is a reprehensible statement on the anniversary of the horrific terrorist attack by a Palestinian terrorist organization against innocent Israelis. In the guise of “grieving” with those mourning that day, Mayor Mamdani asserts as fact hotly disputed allegations that he knows full well will offend and further upset those same people he pretends to grieve with. On this day of all days, the Mayor of the city with the largest Jewish population outside of Israel embraces extreme activism instead of balanced leadership.

Over the past week, I have been rewatching gut-wrenching videos taken by Hamas terrorists of their own massacre of Israeli families, grandparents and children three years ago today, reading about new accounts of hostages in brutal captivity, and thinking back to my own experience taking my young children back and forth to a bomb shelter as rockets rained down from Gaza. I think often about how the Iron Dome may very well have saved my family’s lives that day, along with thousands of other innocent civilians in Israel.  Since 2007 when Israel withdrew from Gaza and turned control over to Hamas, neither Israel nor Gazan civilians have been in charge. Instead, it has been governed by a globally-designated terrorist group whose stated mission and sole focus is to wipe out Israel, which they tried to do three years ago and then carried on for years by holding hundreds of Israeli hostages in brutal conditions in their terror tunnel network. That terrorist group remains armed and dangerous in Gaza today, still fully committed to wiping out Israel, the world’s only safe haven for Jews and the only democracy in the region.  If you are someone — like me — who wants peace in the region and self-determination for all people there, then Hamas represents a complete and total obstacle to that goal. As we remember the devastation inflicted by them on this day three years ago, we must also recognize that Iranian-backed terrorist groups such as Hamas remain an existential threat not only to peace in the region but also to democracy around the world.  Today is a day of mourning and remembrance of all those innocent lives lost, those who were wounded both physically and mentally, the hostages who survived through unspeakable conditions, and a country shaken to its core by the genocidal attack three years ago. Tomorrow, I will continue working towards a path to peace, security and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians alike. Am Yisrael Chai.

Lmao. Paid.
In Qatar, I met with the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. There are so many things Qatar does to protect U.S. interests. They host our biggest military base in the region. They house 1000 Afghan refugees (that Trump refuses to let into the U.S.). They were key to getting the hostages out of Gaza. And they are mediators right now in the effort to end the war with Iran. I thanked him for all of this. Qatar is and will remain an essential ally of the United States. Of course, I was also candid with him, in particular regarding my deep concerns about the transfer of the luxury plane. It was a very good, honest discussion.

I'm confident that neither Tylenol nor childhood vaccines is the cause of the increase in autism because there has been no increase in the prevalence of autism, it's entirely changes to diagnostic criteria and there's nothing to explain. slowboring.com/p/the-dangero…

To give you a sense of how batshit this is, no country spends more to undermine US interests through soft power (yes, lobbying, spending billions on US higher education, etc.), than Qatar. They are a human rights abuser to the point where the World Cup Stadia were built with literal slave labor. Yet, the left would have you believe that Israel is the threat to the world order, not the country that literally directly funds Hamas.

The last bill Governor Newsom signed for his 8 year tenure is our science bond to keep California in the lead on science and stop the brain drain Trump is causing with his science cuts. It’ll appear on the March 2028 ballot. Thank you Governor!
Signing the last bill of the regular legislative session with Senator @Scott_Wiener. We're investing in the people and institutions that will drive California's success for generations to come.

Ahead of Rosh Hashanah, I want to speak from the heart to my Jewish sisters and brothers around the world. For me, the bond between Israel and Diaspora Jews is personal. My parents made aliyah from America, and I spent part of my childhood there. I know that this has been a difficult year. Jews from Jerusalem to Sydney to Manchester to New York have been attacked simply for being Jewish. And I know many of you are also worried about Israel and the direction it’s taking. I hear you. And I want every Jew, everywhere, to know: Israel is your home. We may argue - Jews always have (2 Jews, 3 synagogues..) but we should never grow apart. Israel needs you, and Israel will always be there for you. The Israel we are renewing will be a lighthouse. A strong and warm home for every Israeli and every Jew and a source of tikkun olam around the world. Israel is a miracle of Jewish revival and our greatest days are still ahead. Shana Tova to our entire Jewish family. May this be a year of safety, unity and renewal.

The 1984 Olympic Torch Run featured O.J. Simpson leading the charge up California Incline in Santa Monica. That same day, The Juice was jokingly cuffed by a police officer. These days we'd think AI, but this photo has long been in SM Library's archives... his "crime" unknown.

My bill to allow homeowners to replace their windows with energy-efficient windows without city/HOA micro-management just received its final sign-off from the Senate and is headed to the Governor. People should be able to lower their energy bills by weatherizing their windows without cities or HOAs banning it or forcing them to pay dramatically more for bespoke replica windows. SB 908 will help.

BIG WIN FOR LOWER ENERGY BILLS AND CLEAN ENERGY: My legislation to allow people to use plug-in solar (aka balcony solar) just received final Senate sign-off and is on its way to the Governor! Plug-in solar allows renters (who usually don’t benefit from rooftop solar) and homeowners (who may not be able to afford rooftop solar up-front costs) to plug in a low cost solar panel and quickly lower their electric bills. SB 868 is a big win for affordability. Thank you colleagues!

...@Conservatives and the Government are now fighting over who is responsible for enormous Council Tax increases, when the bigger question is why we are still relying on a tax based on house prices from 1991. Our and @FairerShare's thoughts ⬇️
The Conservatives are planning to formally appeal government cuts to council funding after PolHome revealed that Tory-run Wandsworth was planning a 160% council tax rise Shadow ministers James Cleverly and Kevin Hollinrake met with Wandsworth leaders on Wednesday to agree a plan for escalating their response to local government funding reforms It was agreed that they would take statutory action to ask ministers to reconsider the reforms, which are set to result in less funding for many London councils, PolHome understands @matilda__martin & @zoenora6 report politicshome.com/news/articl…

Since Ro is still trying to meddle in our SF supervisor race when he's not busy insider trading,,, 1. it's @Scott_Wiener, you clown 2. Connie is toast. She's joever. I'm not sure why you are tying yourself to her sinking ship. 3. Woke 1 is over, you can't just say "sexism" and "vicious" and expect anyone to care. 4. Can you give me some stock trading tips? @kane created rokhanna.money and I see you've been doing quite well. Any upcoming vaccine news I could frontrun, like you did Moderna?
.@Scott_Weiner thinks echoing ugly, right-wing character attacks against Pelosi is the best way to succeed her. He also has launched vicious attacks against @saikatc & the many progressives & Asian Americans supporting @conniechansf politico.com/newsletters/cal…

Very weird take, given Moskowitz just won a Democratic primary against a DSAer by almost 30 points.

I obviously want the @USMNT to win against Belgium. But this seems correct to me: this would be the right thing for @balogun to do. To reject the unfair (dodgy?) intervention from @realDonaldTrump.
