NYC builds the world’s most expensive subways because (1) the unions pack every tunnel with 4x the workers needed (2) the MTA digs stations 2x as long as the trains so every department gets its own underground offices (3) consultants bill 21% of the budget just to manage the waste Madrid does the same work for $110 million per kilometer. New York charges $2.3 billion. People’s money disappears into featherbedding, oversized holes, and contractor markups while pretending density is the problem.

Over time, you develop a kind of sixth sense for exceptional people. It’s difficult to describe until you’ve seen it enough times, but eventually certain traits become unmistakable Normies will say ā€œduh it’s because of traits like confidence, status, intelligence, chip on their shoulder, etc.ā€ those are all clues, but I believe it’s something much deeper: more like it’s an inability to live below their potential for very long They can distract themselves, suppress it, or temporarily lose their way, but sooner or later they return to the path because there is no real alternative. The drive is intrinsic and everything else is too boring for their ā€˜God-given’ abilities When you meet people like this, it’s almost as if there’s a force pulling them forward that is stronger than the forces pushing them off course One of the most valuable skills you can develop is learning to recognize these people. The other is having enough humility to recognize them when they’re far beyond your current understanding (this is easier said than done) There are levels of talent, conviction, and agency that can completely reshape your model of what’s possible You don’t need to fully understand those people to learn from them either, you just need enough openness to recognize that they exist. That humility alone puts you ahead of most people, because it keeps your perception expanding instead of defending the limits of what you already know

🚨 At the U20 Mayors Summit, Mamdani Says the Left Has Ceded ā€œQuality of Life,ā€ ā€œEfficiency,ā€ and ā€œFraud and Wasteā€ to the Right This was one of the more interesting arguments Zohran Mamdani made today at the U20 Mayors Summit, and a reminder that he can be genuinely sharp when he drops the ā€œcentral castingā€ routine. ā€œIn New York City, there are certain words that have taken on ideological associations.ā€ ā€œQuality of life has come to be seen as somehow a right-wing concern. Efficiency… has been taken on as a right-wing concern, rooting out fraud and waste, a right-wing concern.ā€ Mamdani’s argument is that refusing to engage those issues actually helps the Right. ā€œIf you are staring at an example of social disorder or social inefficiency, and the left refuses to explain either why it has happened or how they will fix it, then the right gets to point at someone in the immediate area and say, ā€˜That’s who did it.ā€™ā€ The harder question is how much of the broader Left is actually prepared to follow the advice.

Firefighters, urban planners, disability advocates, premises liability attorneys, and federal mortgage regulations are why YOU 🫵 can never have this
Seems kind of obvious that the best possible form of urban living is small streets and 4-5 story dwellings , with lots of street calming and vegetation. Perfect density but still calm . Incredible walkability but also safe for kids. Mixed use zoning obviously Somehow we fell in love with towers and bungalows and parking and pedestrianization , huge parks and wide boulevards and the extremes

Amy Chua, JD Vance's mentor in law school, says he once asked her "Why are you so nice to me?" She says "I later realized, it’s his background. A lot of people weren’t nice to him.ā€ I don't believe in hell, but if it existed, I would say there's a special place in it for JD Vance. Think about Vance's life story 1) Comes from a background where white people treat him like trash. His dad is not in his life, his mom is a drug addict, his family members fight in public and set each other on fire 2) Gets into an elite law school, where an Asian American woman mentors him and shows him kindness he's never experienced before. 3) Marries an Asian American woman of a different ethnicity, who he says helped civilize him 4) Builds a political career around the idea that non-white people are polluting America and them coming into the country is a crime committed against the people he grew up with, never answering how his children fit into his worldview that says whites are the real Americans and simply by existing non-whites are destroying the country. What kind of human being is this? What kind of person builds an entire identity out of spreading hate against those who helped him? You don't want to think anyone's soul can be this ugly.

NY has done an amazing job minimizing serious organized crime. But now it feels like an outrageous percent of crime is committed by the same small number of deranged individuals. It’s a top priority to figure out a solution that’s not just arresting the same person 93 times

Jalen on KAT: "The narrative was placed on him by the outside world. You never really know a person until obviously you meet them face to face and you see what he says and what his actions are. And being the teammate that he is and seeing his sacrifices and seeing what he's done his entire career puts him in a position to become a hall of famer. And honestly I wouldn't trade that for the world. And the things that he's done has been extraordinary and not really sure how he's going to respond to me saying all these nice things about him but he's one hell of a basketball player but he's honestly a better teammate"
Jalen on being teammates with KAT: "It's an unfair narrative of him but I truly love that dude and everything he's done for this team, the city, and as a friend. He's been fantastic"

New York City is a marvel of innovation, attracting the greatest minds in engineering. For example, the MTA decided it wanted to build the slowest elevator on Earth, and they made it happen on Lex & 63rd.

I am so incredibly happy for Knicks fans. 1994 was one of the most gut-wrenching Finals losses in NBA history. Not getting back again until 1999, when Ewing had a torn Achilles and they were close to drawing dead to the Duncan-Robinson Spurs was a different type of cruelty. And somehow never truly coming close in any season since then should have just been unfathomable. Instead, it was entirely predictable and at various times they were a national punch line. To turn this season around from what it seemed like it was going to be (another promising but inevitably disappointing season), into what it became (the single most dominant month of playoff basketball from a margin of victory standpoint in the history of the NBA), is truly remarkable. I am picking the Knicks in the Finals but more importantly I’ll be rooting for the Knicks in the Finals. The NYC hoops fans deserve this moment.

Jaxson Dart is simply not talented enough to be expressing a concrete political opinion. You went 4-8 with a 91 passer rating last year, your favorite president is Abraham Lincoln and what you think the country needs most right now is ā€œmore dialogueā€.
