What's the big idea? Last week I asked chatgpt to summarise some work books I've read. I tried some variants but the answers were banal.

One of the best ways to enhance your learning of anything is to teach it.
Teaching forces you to clarify your thinking, organize your knowledge, and communicate effectively.
Teaching also exposes you to different perspectives and questions that can deepen your understanding.

A few decades ago, when we left the office, there was no way to continue working.
Leaving the office allowed us to switch off work mode.
Now, work is always with us. It's one reason why burnout is so high.

Good thread on open standards. In the data engineering / platform space I'm aware of @OpenLineage which looks really useful.
Replying to @mipsytipsy
In terms of investment, it's one of the best things any platform team can do to make their code maintainable over the long run.
And since you can switch from vendor to vendor without reinstrumenting (!), it forces vendors to compete on the merits instead of relying on lock-in.

SLOs are the API between business and engineering. You can argue all day about spending your cycles on features or resiliency, and no one will ever win or feel good about it.
OR, you can negotiate a number that you all buy in to and agree comes first.

Most people overinvest in expiring skills & underinvest in permanent skills.
Expiring skills are tactical; their relevance diminishes with time and technology
Permanent skills are evergreen and create disproportionate impact
E.g. communication, judgement, trust, empathy

There's no shame in not knowing things! It's Okay to say "I don't know"
The only shame is to pretend that we know everything. 🧠
