Remembered this statistic brought up by @unclebobmartin: "the number of programmers in the world doubles every five years"' So... did this number just STOP in 2026? I mean if you define programmers narrowly as "people writing code by hand". This is the peak, right?

How do you know a person is using Claude Code? They'll tell you. In a comment. Like, in a thousand code comments.

CSS layers are awesome

How cute, are these the baby steps to the AI uprising?

Whooa a 2002 W3C draft actually proposed CSS rulesets in the style tag: w3.org/TR/2002/WD-css-style-… Imagine we had this today

Playing around with an idea: responsive code. The build script creates up to 5 versions of each code sample using Prettier, and a container query displays the right one. Brotli means the filesize overhead is very small. Live demo: jakearchibald.com/2026/css-c…

With AI you can do a task that's supposed to be 3 hours in... actually 3 hours

LLMs periodically producing hacks and hallucinations can be a good thing. It makes good programmers want to keep babysitting them, do reviewing sessions. Keeps them on their toes. What if LLMs started hallucinating only, like, once in 6 months? Oh damn

It's interesting that the only thing the "language models" can't do yet is human language

I don't understand what everyone's on about, Fable is impossible to work with. It's as if it's sneakily trying to work against you, I've never faced this with any other model

wondered why opus 4.8 got dumbed down today and turned out I was on fable

Weird math: 1000x code writing speed Split tasks into small reviewable steps Each prompt 1.5-3 min "thinking" with high effort Each step ~10 min reading by a dummy (me) Plus idle time due to multitasking between 10 features Equals... same time per feature as it has always been

Suddenly, being aware of "tech news" matters the most. It always did, but especially now. E.g. knowing what browsers ship is essential so that you can guide models to use new capabilities instead of doing old hacks. Knowing which new libs come out, following right ppl on X, etc.

But it's the other way around, too. Knowing browser basics is just as essential. The code models learn upon is average. But at the same time it's easier than ever to produce outstanding results if you simply know a bit more about your own field

PSA: when you wake up, reach for your phone immediately. Do NOT scroll Instagram reels. Send a good morning message. Not to your girlfriend, to Claude. That way, you can start the clock for your 5 hour Claude Code usage limit while you freshen up and head to the office. At noon, the 5 hour window would have passed and the usage limit would reset. Then you can generate more shareholder value.

TIL: TIDs Cool concept! TIDs ("Timestamp Identifiers") are locally unique and "effectively globally unique" identifiers which are chronologically sortable
