A Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Once again, no early warning from our partners. The main target was energy infrastructure, specifically CHPP-4. Unfortunately, it was hit. A residential building was also damaged, and rescuers are currently putting out a fire there. Our systems detected these missiles only when they were already virtually on approach to Kyiv. CHPP-4 is one of Kyiv’s key energy facilities. According to our intelligence, the Russians are preparing further ballistic missile launches. The facts show that the Russians do not consider themselves bound by what the President of the United States said. Ukraine supported an energy ceasefire. Russia is targeting yet another power plant and the lives of our people. And this is absolutely unjust: when they are destroying our energy infrastructure, and Ukraine is not even receiving early warnings about ballistic missile launches. It is important that the world does not stay silent about this. And it is important that the United States really see what is happening and who is responsible for this war continuing. Please stay safe tonight and tomorrow. We are working to replenish our air defenses with anti-ballistic missiles.

Ukraine joins the @UN Human Rights Council for 2027-2029 while continuing to defend its sovereignty against Russia’s war of aggression. We thank all UN Member States that supported our country’s candidacy. As Russia’s aggression and grave violations of human rights continue, Ukraine will prioritise accountability, protection of prisoners of war and unlawfully detained civilians, the return of deported and forcible transferred Ukrainian children, and support for international documentation and investigation mechanisms. "Drawing on our own experience, we will work with partners to strengthen accountability, defend human dignity, reinforce the international human rights architecture, and address emerging challenges to human rights worldwide," Ukraine’s Foreign Minister @andrii_sybiha has stated.

Ukraine rejects and condemns the ultimatums and blackmail by the governments of Hungary and the Slovak Republic regarding energy supplies between our countries 🇺🇦🇭🇺🇸🇰 Such actions, in the context of massive and targeted Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and Moscow's attempts to deprive Ukrainians of electricity, heating, and gas during extreme cold weather, are provocative, irresponsible, and threaten the energy security of the entire region. In doing so, the governments of Hungary and Slovakia are not only playing into the hands of the aggressor, but also harming their own energy companies that supply energy on a commercial basis. Ukraine is in constant contact with representatives of the European Commission regarding the damage to Ukrainian energy infrastructure caused by daily Russian strikes. We have also provided information about the consequences of these Russian attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline infrastructure to the governments of Hungary and Slovakia. Security and stabilization repair work continues amid daily threats of new missile attacks. Ukraine has also proposed alternative ways to resolve the issue of supplying non-Russian oil to these countries. 🇪🇺 Ukraine has always been, is, and will remain a reliable energy partner of the EU and a transit country for energy resources. At the same time, in light of the unfounded and irresponsible threats coming from Budapest and Bratislava in recent days, Ukraine is considering the possibility of activating the Early Warning Mechanism provided for in the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. We call on the governments of Hungary and the Slovak Republic to engage in constructive cooperation and behave responsibly. Ultimatums should be sent to the Kremlin, and certainly not to Kyiv.

Response and recovery efforts are ongoing following Russia’s overnight attack. Nearly 300 attack drones, most of them “shaheds,” and 50 missiles of various types, a significant share of them ballistic, were launched against Ukraine. The strikes targeted Kyiv and the region, the Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, and Sumy regions. Tragically, one person was killed in the Fastiv district. My condolences to the family and loved ones. Eight people were injured, including one child. The main target of the attack was the energy sector. Ordinary residential buildings were also damaged, and there is damage to the railway. Moscow continues to invest in strikes more than in diplomacy. This week alone, Russia launched more than 1,300 attack drones against Ukraine, over 1,400 guided aerial bombs, and 96 missiles of various types, including dozens of ballistic ones. That is why we must bolster our air defense. We need systems that effectively counter ballistic threats. Thank you to all our partners who help us procure air defense missiles through PURL and provide them from their own stocks. Each such package protects critical infrastructure and preserves normal life.

Last night, the Russian army “defeated” yet another hospital – in Kyiv, with a functioning inpatient unit. Patients had to be evacuated. There are casualties. Sadly, one person has been killed. My condolences to the family and loved ones. Everyone who needs assistance is receiving help. Of course, Ukrainians will restore this hospital. That is the kind of people we are – Ukrainians always rebuild what has been destroyed. Likewise, repair crews, energy specialists, and all essential services are working in the regions where the Russians have caused new damage and new power outages. Overnight, 165 attack drones were launched, around 100 of them “shaheds.” And it is crucial that our partners never forget: air defense is needed every day; funding for the production of interceptor drones is needed every day; equipment for the energy sector is needed every day. This week, we will be working with our European and American partners to ensure that Ukraine has the assistance it needs. I am grateful to everyone who supports our state and our people.

Strong statement by the PM of 🇬🇱 - and there was also an equally clear statement the PM of 🇩🇰. When Trump 🇺🇸 brings up 🇬🇱 in the context of the 🇻🇪 operation there is certainly a need to react.
Statement from the Premier of Greenland 🇬🇱 6:55pm local time: “🇬🇱 We have been a close and loyal friend of the United States for generations. We have stood shoulder to shoulder in difficult times. We have taken responsibility for security in the North Atlantic — and not least for North America. That is what true friends do. Precisely for that reason, the current and repeated rhetoric coming from the United States is entirely unacceptable. When the President of the United States speaks of “needing Greenland” and links us to Venezuela and military intervention, it is not only wrong. It is disrespectful. Our country is not an object in great-power rhetoric. We are a people. A country. A democracy. That must be respected — especially by close and loyal friends. We are part of NATO, and we are fully aware of our country’s strategic location. We also understand that our security depends on good friends and strong alliances. In that context, a respectful and loyal relationship with the United States is very important. That has been the case for decades. But alliances are built on trust. And trust requires respect. Threats, pressure, and talk of annexation have no place between friends. That is not how one speaks to a people who have repeatedly demonstrated responsibility, stability, and loyalty. Enough is enough. No more pressure. No more insinuations. No more fantasies of annexation. We are open to dialogue. We are open to conversations. But they must take place through the proper channels and in full respect of international law. And the proper channels are not random and disrespectful posts on social media. Greenland is our home and our territory. And it will remain so. 🇬🇱”

It is critically important for Ukraine that partner support continues – steady defense assistance and reinforcement of our air defense. Almost every day, lives in Ukraine are under threat because of Russian attacks and strikes using various types of weapons against our people. This week alone, Russia launched more than 1,070 guided aerial bombs, nearly 1,000 attack drones, and six missiles against Ukraine. Everything agreed with our partners must be accelerated as much as possible. Every missile for air defense systems that is currently held in storage by partners can truly save lives. Stability and predictability of assistance to Ukraine are what can really push Moscow toward diplomacy. We count on continued defense assistance and support for the prepared documents on security guarantees by the United States, Europe, and partners within the Coalition of the Willing. I am grateful to everyone around the world who, through their strength, helps diplomacy and all efforts toward a just peace.

The Nordic flags share a distinctive design known as the Nordic Cross, a symbol that traces its origins to medieval Scandinavia and reflects the region’s shared cultural and historical heritage. First appearing on the Danish flag, the Dannebrog, this cross motif later spread across the Nordic world. Today, variations of the Nordic Cross are used not only by the Nordic states — Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland — but also by several regions and territories influenced by Nordic history. While colors differ, the design highlights a common identity shaped by geography, tradition, and centuries of close ties across Northern Europe.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen: Over the past year, we have had to endure a great deal—threats, pressure, and condescending rhetoric, even from our closest allies of a lifetime. Talk of taking over another country and another people, as if they were something that could be bought and owned. That has no place anywhere.

On New Year’s night, when people gathered to welcome the new year together, Russia attacked Ukrainian cities, remaining true to its priorities of killing, terror, and exhaustion. The regions of Volyn, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Kherson were affected. The first civilian victim of Russian terror in 2026 was killed by Russian shelling in the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson region. Residential apartment buildings, vehicles, private homes, outbuildings, and other civilian infrastructure – the homes of Ukrainians – were damaged. Russia continues its campaign of terror and will continue it unless it is forced to stop. Russia understands only the language of strength and pressure. When it has more reasons to end the war than to continue fighting, Russia will stop. This is a matter of the world’s collective political will.
