For nearly 30 years, the @coe 46 member States have been a death penalty-free zone. Protecting this achievement requires continued vigilance, cooperation & engagement from future generations.

After the violent attack against the CSD pride march in Berlin last Saturday, it is even more important, that other events of the 🌈 LGBTI+ community will take place - as a sign for an open and respectful society, as a symbol for executing our fundamental freedoms in Europe @coe
The CSD stands for freedom, tolerance, dignity & equality of the LGBTIQ+ community in our society.
🇩🇪 defends these fundamental values of the @CoE. I am shocked by yesterday's islamist attack on the CSD in Berlin. Hatred & contempt must not prevail. Protection of 🌈 is our duty.
Warmest congratulations to our Dutch colleague, Ambassador Tanja Gonggrijp, for being elected as new Deputy Secretary General by the Parliamentary Assembly of the CoE today. She will start in her new role on September 1st, 2026.
