Fantastic news. Universities should generally limit academic postings to candidates capable to conduct serious scholarly work.
Nine years today, no justice. I salute the life and work of my friends Michael & Zaida, assassinated while serving with me in the UN Group of Experts on the Democratic Republic of the Congo. May their example inspire future generations to serve with respect, rigour and humanism.
Out in @WorldDevJournal and based on long-term ethnography and original material, my piece on “nonconventional logistics”—which is how #Rwanda’s #FDLR rebels call their elusive, violent enterprise to sustain insurgency in eastern #Congo. Free download at sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Je ne suis pas très étonné que Marine, Jordan et les autres héritiers SS mentent aux français•es, ils le font chaque jour, mais il aurait été souhaitable qu’un premier ministre ne mente pas.

On this day in 2017, Michael J. Sharp and Zaida Catalán were assassinated while investigating war crimes in Congo’s Kasai region. Most people behind this political murder enjoy impunity until today, just as much as others involved in killings in the region for over three decades.
It’s tasteless, unethical and a proof of utter analytical poverty to weaponize the murder of my colleagues Michael and Zaida for unconnected, misleading and amateurish political lobbying.
M23 troops further advancing towards downtown #Goma tonight, including airport. Many FARDC fleeing and/or in surrender talks, but heavy fighting (involving wazalendo?) in some areas, no sight of European contractors.
Yesterday, Kakule Sikuli Lafontaine died in Butembo. He embodied the Congo wars like few others. Mai-Mai, Co-commander of PARECO and UPCP, army officer, M23 ally, fugitive, detainee, Ugandan exilee by Museveni’s grace, henchman of church elites—all that in the past 30 years.
Good morning @volker_turk, I’ll be in Geneva next week. Happy to bring you a copy of my book if you are interested in digging just a little deeper into the topic. Most welcome.
