Reading American Hagwon, I realized I could almost see Maslow’s hierarchy stretched across three generations of my family. My parents: safety and stability. My generation: esteem and accomplishment. Our kids, perhaps: the privilege of asking not “How do I succeed?” but “What am I meant to create?” A door on cinder blocks. A desk with Diet Coke cans. A table covered in clay. Three tables. Three generations. Three versions of the American dream. Thank you, Min Jin, for making me see them. #AmericanHagwon
