Deputy Minister @BerniceSwarts1 led the planting of 35 indigenous trees, each representing a life lost in the tragic plane crash of 19 October 1986, including that of Mozambican President Samora Machel. More than a symbolic gesture, the trees stand as living memorials — rooted in remembrance, growing in honour of those lost. #MbuziniTragedy #SouthAfrica #Mozambique #40thAnniversaryOfMbuziniTragedy

"We cannot continue to treat waste as though it has no value. We cannot continue to allow recyclable materials to be buried in landfill sites while entrepreneurs struggle to access raw materials, funding and markets. Nor can we accept a situation in which communities are exposed to environmental harm because appropriate waste management services and infrastructure are unavailable", said Deputy Minister Swarts. #CircularEconomySummit2026 #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #GreenEconomy #DFFE

"The circular economy is not simply about doing less harm to the environment. It is also about creating new economic value from materials that would otherwise be wasted. The circular economy is important because it seeks to retain the value of materials and products for as long as possible. It encourages us to prevent waste, reuse products, repair and refurbish items, recycle materials and recover value from resources that would otherwise be discarded,” Said Deputy Minister Swarts while delivering the keynote address. #CircularEconomySummit2026 #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #GreenEconomy #DFFE
