linguistic drift is totally out of your ingroup's control, so it's curmudgeonly to complain when your jargon loses its meaning
i do wonder how instructive chess community is wrt "suddenly a computer is better than you in every way"
like chess is more popular in 21st century than ever before, in large part due to engines allowing ppl to get their feet wet without paying $$$ for tutors and books and such.
a diet of mostly staple crops seems obviously less nutritious than that of a hunter-gatherer, so one might imagine that the agricultural revolution was at the time hugely controversial because of all the grainslop. but, we did eventually learn the bitter agricultural lesson.
hypertext is such a banger technology, my favorite artistic medium. it's language that you can interact with, tweak and transform in real time like speech but possesses a permanence no spoken word can imitate
turned out google wasn't actually all that good at it!

if google is so good at making AI then why do their ads think i'm straight. not like i'm hiding anything over here
i suppose it's not that surprising that the class of people famous for not picking up on social cues would believe that they are in fact very good at it
Hot take:
Neurodivergent people can understand social cues just fine. What throws us off is often the INAUTHENTICITY behind them.
So much of society revolves around fake smiles, meaningless small talk, and pretending everything is fine when it clearly isn’t.
Like, babe, I can see that you’re hurting. How am I supposed to comfortably sit here and discuss the weather when your entire soul looks exhausted?
opus 5.5 does still struggle with playing chess, it recommends dubious moves & misses obvious tactics. you can mitigate by having it generate the board positions in ascii (or having it run stockfish ofc) but plain reasoning isn't up to the task of evaluating a move sequence

how couples argue in 2026:
gf: cool how theres 4 mustards in the fridge but none that go on my sandwich. you have no theory of mind for me
bf: emotional blackmail. not my responsibility to provide you mustards. those are mine for dipping.
gf: oh the goy needs his dipslop
skived off going to the gym for a week and now today i'm hitting PRs left & right. this is the worst infohazard
all the regular machines at the gym are used to i'm using the whimsical ones by Hoist that move the seat around as you lift the weight
rehydrating salts have a funny way of making you feel *more* thirsty, maybe because they increase absorption so much compared to regular water that saliva etc levels decrease and it feels similar to mild dehydration?
We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model.
We’ve been consulting with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and we have drawn on their advice and public recommendations to inform how we release these results.

This is the culture that produced the sword in the stone. It doesn’t matter how much you’ve practiced, how much you’ve trained, how hard you’ve worked. You’re either meant to pull the sword or you aren’t. Neo isn’t “the one” because he studied to be.
