Fresh from handling the tragic Masaka school fire case, in which the accused were acquitted after eight years of criminal proceedings, Advocate Sam Sekyeewa joins us tomorrow at 7 PM on #JSCConversations.
Children lost their lives. Families were left grieving and searching for justice. The accused spent eight years fighting for their freedom.
What went wrong? What does this case reveal about criminal investigations, prosecutions and the administration of justice in Uganda?
We sit down with Sam to discuss this extraordinary case, the state of legal practice, electoral justice and the growing crisis of judicial backlog.
When justice fails both sides, who holds the justice system accountable?

Yaaaas 💪🏾💪🏾! Another good one! Let me share with a diaspora health forum am in with majority of Ugandan doctors including the ministers 😉🇺🇬
A country can survive many arguments. It cannot afford to get medicine wrong.
Uganda is producing more doctors while hospitals continue to need them. Yet young doctors are still caught in battles over internship, pay, working conditions and what happens after training. That is not an internal quarrel within the profession. It concerns every Ugandan, because every family will eventually depend on a doctor.
On this week’s #JSCConversations, I sit down with Dr Frank Rubabinda Asiimwe, President of the Uganda Medical Association, Consultant Urologist and Transplant Surgeon.
We will confront the intern doctors’ crisis, doctors’ pay, brain drain, medical negligence, the duties doctors owe patients, the obligations the State owes doctors, and the larger question beneath all of it:
Can Uganda build a health system worthy of the people who depend on it?
THE DOCTOR, THE INTERN AND THE STATE.
Join us.

TRAINED TO SAVE LIVES. LEFT WITHOUT JOBS. ARRESTED FOR DEMANDING THEIR DUE.
What is happening to Uganda’s doctors?
Why are we training doctors we cannot employ?
Why does internship facilitation remain a flashpoint?
Can Uganda stop the brain drain?
And should doctors themselves be held accountable?
Today on @JSConversations ,we sit down with Dr Frank Asiimwe, transplant surgeon and President of the Uganda Medical Association @TheUMAofficial

UPDATE: Masaka High Court has acquitted two people accused of killing 10 students in a 2018 dormitory fire at a school in Rakai District. In a lengthy ruling, Justice Victoria Nakintu Katamba agreed with the assessors that the prosecution had failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the involvement of Alex Mugarura and Edison Niyo in the offences. The court acquitted the two of all 48 counts, including murder, arson, attempted murder and attempted arson. Justice Nakintu ordered their immediate release, unless they are being held on other charges.
