The Pirkey coal plant in east Texas was demolished today, after years of @SierraClub advocacy. SWEPCO announced retirement for the plant back in 2020, but it finally came down today. One more TX coal plant down, 13 remaining. Go @BeyondCoal! kltv.com/video/2024/10/10/sw…

Were there heatwaves & hurricanes & floods before climate change? Yes, of course there were! And I can *assure* you--atmospheric scientists are well aware of that. But none of this negates the reality that we're seeing now--which is unfortunately not a fluke, but part of a trend.

Reminder: hurricane rapid intensification is a symptom of climate change, which is primarily caused by fossil fuels heated.world/p/calling-this-…
Hurricane Milton is undergoing one of the fastest rapid intensifications ever observed in the Atlantic. It is now a 155 mph Category 4 storm, just 2 mph shy of Category 5 status. Not a single weather model predicted the storm would strengthen this quickly.

The air quality stripes project renders the correlation between fossil-fuels and poor municipal air quality clear as day. But how many eye-catching graphs must be published before those in power take their responsibility to the public seriously? theguardian.com/environment/…

Not "one-eighth of an inch" over 400 years, as Trump says — the National Ocean Service predicted that sea level along the U.S. coastline is projected to rise 10-12 inches from 2020 to 2050. politifact.com/factchecks/20…

Michigan used to have a rail system that was double the density of France's, and now its biggest city Detroit sees 3 trains per day instead of 200+.
One of the main projects I spend my time on is my Historical Passenger Rail Map of Michigan. Recently, I've been documenting stations, mostly in southern and southeast Michigan. I've been sourcing the location of the station through old insurance maps and atlases.
