🚨Wishing our #ontag farmers a safe and bountiful #harvest26. ⚠️When leaving the farm laneway, remember to keep road safety at the top of your team's priority list.
When driving farm equipment on the roadways, remember to:
- Drive on the road, as travelling on your side of the roadway prevents unsafe passing.
- Circle-check all equipment before leaving the farm.
- Avoid distractions; keep your focus on the road.
- Make time for rest and nutrition breaks.
- Be visible with your lights on and ensure the SMV sign is on all farm equipment.
-Be patient and wait until it's safe to pull onto the roadway.
Road safety is a shared responsibility between farmers and motorists. For more information, visit ofa.on.ca/roadsafety.
Together, we can ensure everyone gets home to their loved ones safely. #ruralON #ontag

This week marks the inaugural Rural Ontario Week, celebrating the people, communities and opportunities that help rural Ontario thrive.
From farmers and local businesses to community leaders and volunteers, rural Ontario is built on strong connections, innovation and the people who call it home. It’s a chance to recognize their contributions and celebrate what makes rural communities across the province unique.
Starting Tuesday, OFA is collaborating with the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture to welcome visitors to the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo in Bruce County. We’ll be connecting with farmers, partners, Ontarians and rural community members from across Ontario, Canada and beyond. We look forward to celebrating the people at the heart of rural life.

Congratulations to @samoosterhoff on his appointment as Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness! We look forward to working with you in your new role and supporting a strong and successful Ontario fruit and vegetable sector.
Grateful to serve the families, farmers, and food producers of Ontario as Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Agri-business 🚜
Growing up on the family farm in Niagara, I saw my parents work tirelessly with determination, optimism, and faith to grow the food our communities rely on.
It was more than a job for them: it was a calling, a continuation of a multi-generational legacy that they were thankful for.
Today, my siblings continue in their footsteps, and the family farm has grown, leading to new businesses and creating more opportunities for workers beyond the family.
It’s a familiar growth story across the province: agriculture, food, and agri-business support $52B in GDP, and tens of thousands of jobs.
I may have left the farm, but as I head to farms and agri-businesses across the province, I remain more motivated than ever to protect our remarkable workers and farm families, as well as the entrepreneurs and visionaries who lead them.
In the face of Donald Trump’s unprovoked trade war, my message to Ontario’s farmers and agricultural industries is simple: with @fordnation we will move quicker, open up new markets, cut red tape, and protect workers and families.
Grateful also for the work of @TrevorJonesCKL in this crucial sector.
Now, it’s time to put on some coveralls and boots, and get to work!

Harvest season means busier rural roads across Ontario, with tractors, combines, school buses, commuters and, in some communities, horse-drawn vehicles all sharing the road.
Patience and extra care can make all the difference. Slow down early, leave plenty of room and only pass when it’s legal and safe.
This week’s Viewpoint looks at how motorists, farmers and municipalities can all play a role in keeping rural roads safe this fall.
