I’ve got lots of thoughts on the NHJ piece - working on how best to share them - but of all the responses I’ve read thus far, this might be the best. Just nailed it: accountability, quality, and centering who deserves to be focused on here - Najya.
The first honest audit of Najya Hannah-Jones's schooling was done by a seventh grader with a phone. My response to Nikole's brave new essay, and why we've been measuring the wrong thing in Black. citizen.substack.com/p/we-sh…

Coming shortly (9/8) is a trailblazing book by New York Times reporter Natasha Singer (@natashanyt) titled "Coding Kids: Big Tech's Battle to Remake Public Schools". It is a devastating documentation of how commercial interests have taken over elementary and secondary school classes. Commercializing education obstructs civic educational skills and experience for tens of millions of American children. When they grow up without any civic education and experience they will be vulnerable to the rhetoric of corrupt politicians, such as the kind coming daily from Donald J. Trump. -R
