I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about where I want to take EDGE OF 3D.
For several years, a huge part of this channel has been materials testing. Tensile testing, impact testing, HDT, layer adhesion, flexible materials, custom test equipment, spreadsheets, charts, comparisons… all of it.
I’m proud of the work I’ve done, and I still believe there is value in good, repeatable testing.
But somewhere along the way, it started feeling more like an obligation than the reason I started making videos in the first place.
The cycle became pretty predictable: a company sends filament, I spend days printing test specimens, running tests, processing data, filming, editing and publishing a video — and then I move on to the next box of filament.
Meanwhile, there are now channels with much larger budgets, commercial test equipment and resources that I simply don’t have, often doing versions of the same testing I’ve been doing for years, even copying tests I designed.
Trying to keep competing in that lane just because it became “what EDGE OF 3D does” doesn’t make much sense to me anymore.
So I’m changing direction.
I’m no longer accepting filament simply in exchange for doing a full materials-testing video.
That doesn’t mean materials testing is disappearing. If somebody develops a genuinely interesting material, makes a claim that makes me curious, or sends me something that I personally want to understand, I’ll absolutely put it on the test equipment.
But I’m done testing things simply because they showed up in a box.
The same goes for the channel in general.
I’m not going to force myself into a weekly upload schedule or make videos just to feed the algorithm.
This past weekend is probably the best example of where I want this to go.
My son is remodeling his house, and we’ve been working through the floor plan. I can look at a blueprint and visualize what those lines are going to become.
My 4- and 6-year-old grandkids can’t.
So instead of trying to explain a blueprint to them, I modeled the house and 3D printed it.
Now they each have their own physical model of their dad’s house that they can carry around, look at, touch, turn around and actually understand.
That project had nothing to do with a review agreement, a sponsor, a spec sheet or an upload schedule.
I made it because I had a problem that 3D printing could solve, and because I wanted to make it.
That is exactly the kind of thing that made me fall in love with 3D printing and making in the first place.
Here’s the Short showing the finished models:

And that’s where I want EDGE OF 3D to go.
If I find a printer, machine, tool, material, piece of technology or ridiculous project that makes me think, “I want to screw around with that,” there’s a pretty good chance a camera is going to get turned on.
That might mean 3D printers.
It might mean CNC machining.
It might mean building test equipment.
It might mean electronics, Raspberry Pi projects, shop projects, CAD, manufacturing, tearing something apart to figure out how it works, or building something that probably didn’t need to exist in the first place.
Basically, EDGE OF 3D is going back to what it was supposed to be from the beginning:
Me learning things, building things, testing things and occasionally breaking things because I wanted to know what would happen.
There will probably be fewer videos.
But the videos I do make will be because I actually wanted to make them.
And I think the channel will be better for it.
Replying to @TeamYouTube
@TeamYouTube I need help with a compromised YouTube/Google account. I’m locked out of the Google account tied to my channel, unauthorized 2FA/security changes were made, and the hacked-channel recovery flow keeps looping back to email verification that I cannot access. I also have Google Workspace recovery case #74456704 open. Is there a way to escalate this to a human and use a reachable alternate contact email?
@TeamYouTube Adding my channel link for the hijacking report:
youtube.com/@edgeof3d
I’ve already tried the hacked-channel recovery assistant multiple times, but it keeps looping back to verification through the Google account I can no longer access.
I need access to the YouTube hijacking report/escalation form or another way to reach a human for recovery.
There aren’t many people I’d ask this for, but Matt German is one of the good ones.
Matt is a true friend, and anyone in the 3D printing or maker community who knows him knows exactly what kind of person he is. He’s the guy who shows up. He gives his time, his skills, his materials, and his energy to help makers, organizations, and people all over Europe.
Now Matt is at a huge milestone in his own life.
He has worked incredibly hard to get here. He passed his B1 English test. He passed the Life in the UK test. He has done the work. Now the only thing standing between him and submitting his citizenship application is the cost.
He has less than two weeks to raise:
$2,470 for the citizenship application
$137 for the passport
That’s $2,607 total.
If Matt has ever helped you, answered a question, supported your project, contributed to the community, or even just made the maker world a better place, this is a chance to help him cross the finish line.
Please consider giving anything you can. Even a small amount helps. And if you can’t give, sharing this would still mean a lot.
Let’s help Matt reach this milestone.

This shouldn’t bounce like this.

My local Sams.......WTF is this and WTF is the included 1 x Coconut Printer Food Roll?
So many questions.....
New tests under way, full line of @SirayaTech PPA are the first subjects.
Yes @SirayaTech produces FDM/FFF Filament, it's affordable, performs well and prints well.

Ask UPS? Ask them what, who's going to pay for the box of electronics they put on my deck in the rain where it will sit till next week?
Don't waste your time or your money to have UPS delay or hold a delivery.
@UPS this is not acceptable
