I was heads down and deep in the Lamda project with @quocleix and @HengTze and call into action by @sundarpichai to help launch it in 100 days, which became the Bard experiment.
We rapidly scaled down the lamda model from 128B to 35B, but Jeff was already thinking about Gemini. – at Stanford, CA
Meanwhile, @quocleix and I, and the lamda team was thinking about creativity, and @denny_zhou and I were thinking further more about reasoning and Chain-of-thought implications.
That was an exciting time for launching large reasoning machines. – at Stanford, CA
Berkeley RDI's AI Summit has become one of the best events in the bay area for AI. I flew back from Taiwan just in time to participate. Was fun to to discuss Frontier problems with Igor, Richard, and Dogus.

Very happy to support this on behalf of Google. We have long benefited from open source, are big contributors to open source and in fact have consistently made open weights models with Gemma available from @GoogleDeepMind @demishassabis . Onwards!
For my first post, I’m sharing a letter @NVIDIA signed on why open models matter.
AI will transform every industry, power every company, and be built by every country.
Open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity, accelerate innovation and diffusion, and enable sovereignty.
The world needs both frontier closed models and frontier open models.

Increasingly, I'm focusing my research on the creativity question: how can reasoning and chain-of-thought (schemata) might lead to "creativity" in large models.
Answer is more complicated than I expected---better memory mechanisms, planning, connecting novel knowledge. – at Taipei City, Taiwan

Gemini 3.5 Flash is amazing!
- Performs better than 3.1 Pro on coding & agentic tasks
- 4x faster than other frontier models
- 12x faster in @antigravity - 800 tokens/sec!
- Often at less than half the cost
And Pro to come…
Try it in @antigravity, @GeminiApp & more - enjoy!

"Claude Code skill & Codex plugin that makes agent talk like caveman — cutting ~75% output tokens while keeping full technical accuracy. Now with 文言文 mode, terse commits, one-line code reviews, and compression tool that cuts ~46% tokens."
A Hypothesis: Agents of the future could communicate to each other using thought tokens.
Corollary: Humans will have to decode those thought tokens in order to find out what the agents are doing with each other.
Note: GenZers are already doing this with their slang. No Cap.

Thrilled to share: #Aletheia, our math research agent, just solved 6/10 notoriously hard FirstProof problems autonomously, the best result in the inaugural challenge! To me, this is even bigger than our historic IMO-gold achievement last year; these problems challenge even top mathematicians. We share our results transparently, see paper and full thoughts in the thread. 👇
