You can’t serve two masters. If you pursue craftsmanship in the arts in this day and age, You will naturally have to move at a pace and with an intention that will make you feel like you’re being left behind. We are trying to replace what is irreplaceable with speed and aesthetics and it just can’t be. Now we want our artists brandable, and we want them to be machines, we scarcely give them time to feel their way through their own becoming. This is because the ultimate end goal of art in the life of the artist is self actualization. It takes time and inner focus that is threatened by a world that would have artists make space for neither. The gap is getting wider, there’s almost no way to do inner work and live within the bounds of the machine. It is going to be a lonely road for artists that really want truth, but what else do we have? Dark days at present and darker ahead, nevertheless we must be present for all of it.

Telling the truth is deeply antisocial because at some point you will be forced to choose what matters most to you: the truth or the approval of the group.

One of my most deeply held beliefs is that refusing to name truth makes you stupid--literally degrades your intellect. Engaging in mental gymnastics to justify what's convenient but unevidenced, unjust but personally beneficial, 'rewires your neural map' in ways that degrade your overall ability to understand and analyze the world around you, which is a precondition for intelligence and creativity.

If you consume this much and you *aren’t* creating, though, it’ll literally poison your mind. You will not be able to think clearly.
Talk to a top-tier creative and chances are, you’ll be blown away by how prolific they are in their consumption: The musician who listens to 10 albums a week, the designer who’s visited antique stores in 57 countries, the architect who’s living room is stacked with piles of reference guides, the writer who’s read 1,000 novels, the filmmaker who watches 400 movies per year. The method varies, but the core pattern stays the same… it’s constant consumption, day after day.

Music is very clearly the greatest form of art, and the written word is (probably) second. It is genuinely amazing that the human brain is able to enjoy both simultaneously.

I don’t think you just make a new generational aesthetic with that as the goal. It’s a byproduct of something you are attempting to explore or resolve; a new ethos, philosophy, or problem to be addressed, expressed through art or design. Otherwise it’s got no drive or footing.

unfortunate but true.
As has been obvious for years, these major media lawsuits are bargaining chips for equity and prime placement in the next internet If you are not a major media property with an army of lawyers you are the collateral being emotionally manipulated to help the big fish to force the best outcome

if you read pre-enlightenment texts from any culture you’ll find huge parts of the population engaged in deals with demons and trickster gods to achieve wealth / material ends our times will make sense when you realize this practice never went away. it’s everywhere.

The world is Music. It's a gift already for anything to exist at all. A celebration that is so easily missed by taking it for granted. That, to me, is the foundation of gratitude - to see that existence itself is the primordial miracle prior to any specifics within it.

The Bible really does contain a lot of stories where Jesus's followers are like "That person did a bad thing, should we go mess em up?" and Jesus is like "I don't know why I need to keep telling you guys this but no."

Crypto has lost the plot. I'm tired boss. This place used to be punk, but it's sold it's soul to the institutions it vowed to dethrone and has lost its identity entirely. Crypto was intended to be an apolitical rebellion. That's been replaced with pseudo-partisanship, grifting, insider trading, and corruption from the top down. What drew me to this place was disruption, ownership, art, privacy, truth. A chance to level the playing field. But right now it's just old dogs, new tricks. CT has become insufferable, too. If I have to read one more fucking ChatGPT info-fi post about some protocol nobody is every going to use to farm some token that nobody is going to hold for more than 17 minutes I'm gonna blow my brains out. Cozy in spot, and I know it's up only for [my bags] obviously, but I'm deeply disinterested in what's going on here right now. Bummer.

Creation without a creator is meaningless.

growing up with a mom in fashion and dad in tech, i learned that taste is more than preference. it’s a form of intelligence. sociologist pierre bourdieu (1979) argued that taste functions as cultural capital, maintaining hierarchies and signaling class. today in an era of generative abundance, access to “high” culture is increasingly available. the scarcity now is discernment. thoughtful selection. there’s certainly merit in the idea that taste reinforces the existing social order. but i think it’s deeper than that: taste isn’t just reactive, it’s generative. it doesn’t just reflect a worldview, it creates one.
