Perhaps the real danger with these frontier coding models is not that they wreak havoc on our systems and networks but that they show us how retarded and vulnerable they’ve been all along.

And by "paced the frontier," of course, is meant: released yearly incremental improvements that were exactly large enough to preserve Apple's status as "the frontier" and no larger, for the maximum price the market would bear and no larger.
Dario has written that we need to “pace the frontier,” and Sam has agreed. People may be surprised by my response: go ahead.
You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement.
I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible.
But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier.
Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want.
Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well.
So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it.
If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.
Where is the "heat" in post-LLM negotiation of software licenses? Of copyright law? Everyone I know is just waiting for things related to such things to emerge ex nihilo a la Gnostic Calvinism. But at the very least, where are the mines?

Once again we see woke, third-worldism, brownness, etc., overtaking a MLB narrative. It's subtle how it fights for its survival and ultimately survives, despite whatever "vibe shift" you want to point to. If you watch the sequence carefully (across several videos) you will see that the umpire, Doug Eddings, made plenty of mistakes in this game. However, telling that kid to wear his hat straight was not one of them. Telling the kid to wear his hat straight immediately elevated the game. It just also happened to immediately lead to the emotional spiral that dragged the game down and turned it into a subject of discoarse.
The juicy nougat at the center of this is that the ugliness of that emotional spiral is being used by spiritual leftists to defend disrespect for the uniform. The ugly spiral was triggered by an act that enforced "fascist aesthetics" or something, and this is being taken -- by complete accident, by morons, for the most part -- as an indictment of "fascist aesthetics," and as a defense of sloppy, disrespectful modes of fashion. It helps that the kid who wore the crooked hat was young, making his MLB debut, and brown.
Of course, by the way, nobody is explicitly making this case political. It's a political discourse that's totally encrypted, proceeding almost entirely by implication: that the culture of disrespecting the uniform is on a par with the culture of the uniform, or even superior to it: that the right of a player (a rookie!) to disrespect the uniform is more important than the right of an umpire to demand respect for it.
So while the right giggles at the Star Trek fascism of Trump's Space Force uniforms, there's a discourse about the uniforms in America's greatest game that will just be ignored. It's such an easy win, man. Just don't give up on baseball. Defend baseball in the comments. Don't trade baseball away for the fucking Space Force.
But no. Because muh sportsball is gay and none of your favorite podcasters and posters pointed it out to you.
Umpire Doug Eddings went on a power trip during the bottom of the 6th in the Cardinals Rockies game.
First, he demanded that pitcher Hancel Rincon (in his MLB debut) straighten his hat since no one will wear a hat like that on "his field".
When manager Oli Marmol went to talk to Eddings about the hat incident during a pitching change, Eddings gave the Cardinals a pitch clock violation and ejected Marmol.
A couple batters later, with the Cardinals out of challenges, Eddings made a terrible call on a play at the plate to gift the Rockies the lead.
