“Growing up I don’t remember us having to give money for Thanksgiving…..” Well duh you were a child. It was none of your business or concern who paid for what. Y’all don’t know what the adults were discussing or paying for. You just showed up as a child should.

I know Thanksgiving dinners are expensive because I threw a BBQ over the summer and that was like $2500 for food and alcohol. Pitch in and help yall family with Thanksgiving dinner, stop being a moocher and a cheapskate.

I made four dishes for one thanksgiving and two dishes for another (my parents’ families have separate thanksgivings and I attend each) last year and other than the hosts I was the only one to make any food I am 25 years old and my family ranges in age from teenagers to 80yos

I’m not mad at it🤷🏽‍♀️ I think everyone should contribute in some way, even if not financial. Hosting is A LOT. And many traditions die because the onus falls on one or a few. cc: family reunions
Why is my family charging $25 per person for Thanksgiving this year

Imagine being the friend who’s probably attended the bachelorette, bridal shower, wedding, baby shower & paid money for outfits, travel and gifts. Look at the appreciation that she gets. I would absolutely block you if I was the friend and saw this. Village my ass!
My friend wants to plan a couples, no-kids weekend getaway, splitting the cost of a large AirBNB, in January for her 30th birthday. I really do not love this idea (husband is mortified), neither to spend the money nor to get someone to take the toddler for 3 days. It would be a 2.5 hour drive away for us, too, so it’s not like we’re close if something happens. I haven’t been away from him for even 1 night yet and he still just seems so young! It would be very hard to leave him for that long. Am I just a party pooper who needs to get over it? Genuine question. Like I actually need advice here guys

You can tell by people remarks on Thanksgiving… 1. They’ve never hosted anything. 2. Never planned anything. 3. Doesn’t grocery shop or shop for large gatherings. 4. Can’t cook or doesn’t cook. They just show up.

the anti party people think they’re being noble and selfless but really they hate that the party is still happening without them, that’s why the consensus is becoming “well it’s bad to care about your birthday anyway!”, people want to decline your invite and not feel FOMO

This has proven why so many families no longer have reunions. The “new adults” ain’t about shit! In their 30s baffled that they’re being asked to contribute for the holidays. If you’re not bringing a pan of food, $20 is the least you can do. Mac and cheese costs $40 to make.
Replying to @Shanny_live
And I know I just didn’t read, “I’ll just stay home on Thanksgiving and eat pizza before I give my fam money.” So Papa John’s can get $20 out of you but your auntie who about to pick greens for 2 days can’t?

i know it’s been said a million times but american infrastructure is so pathetic. like why is there no high speed rail between nyc and chicago that’s a 9 hour drive and you’d be connecting the top gdp cities in the country

When I was a kid in the 80s, my mom had a big group of friends she took a girls’ trip with every summer. Just a weekend away, a couple hours from home in Michigan - 8 women sharing 4 beds in 2 adjoining hotel rooms, because they were all working class broads with bills to pay and kids to feed. But they did it. Every year. In 1995, my mom died - the 1st among them. The other 7 kept going. Another passed around 2008ish. The other 6 kept going. 2 more passed in quick succession in 2018. The remaining 4 kept going. Another passed 2 years ago. There are 3 left - all in their early-to-mid 70s now - and they still go. I’m only in touch with one of them anymore, and I see her pictures online every year, and I just wanna say with my whole chest that I think this is fucking fabulous and I feel really fucking fortunate to have a similar group of girlfriends who know how to have fun, prioritize doing it, and are game to do it sans spouses & kids. And I really think some people should get outta their heads and outta their homes and do this sort of shit more often.

Yall complain that there is no community, no cookouts, no bbqs, no thanksgiving etc. But as soon as someone ask for help so those said things can happen again, yall don’t want to help. Can’t even bring a soda.
