ECD Network for Kenya is participating in aย 5day multi-stakeholder co-creation convening organized by Mizizi Elimu Afrika in collaboration with the County Government of Samburu, focused on developing a caregiving model for adolescent mothers in Samburu County.
The convening has brought together stakeholders from both National and County Governments, including the Ministry of Education, State Department for Children Services, National Council for Children Services, National Gender and Equality Commission, county leadership, development partners, and community actors to collectively understanding the challenges affecting adolescent girls and young mothers.
Key reflections emerging from the discussions continue to challenge stakeholders towards action-oriented solutions:
โWhy have these issues remained persistent? What difference can be made? Where do adolescent mothers take their children if they lack supportive parents? And where are the adolescent fathers?โ
Statistics shared during the convening revealed the urgency of strengthening support systems, noting that 32% of the child mothers are married, while many others remain at home with limited support.
The discussions continue to emphasize the importance of collective responsibility, child protection, caregiving support systems, and sustainable interventions that safeguard the wellbeing of adolescent mothers and their children.

โEvery missing child is more than a statistic, it is a family in pain, a community in distress, and a future placed at risk. As today we mark International Missing Childrenโs Day, we call upon parents, caregivers, communities, institutions, and government agencies to work together in protecting every child. Prevention begins with vigilance, open communication, and collective responsibility. Every child deserves to grow in safety, love, and protection.โ โ Early Childhood Development Network For Kenya (ECDNeK)

The ECDNeK Webinar on Empowering Women & Men through Enhanced Childcare Support Systems successfully brought together government, private sector, development partners, caregivers, and ECD stakeholders to advance conversations on strengthening childcare systems in Kenya.
๐ Key Issues Raised
* Limited investment in affordable and quality childcare systems
* Unequal caregiving responsibilities that continue to burden women
* Inadequate support and inclusion for children with disabilities and their caregivers
* Limited recognition and professionalization of childcare work
* Need for stronger protection, accountability, and support systems for childcare providers.
๐ข Call to Action
โ๏ธ Increase investment in accessible and quality childcare systems
โ๏ธ Promote shared caregiving responsibilities and engage men in childcare
โ๏ธ Strengthen support and inclusion for caregivers of children with disabilities
โ๏ธ Professionalize the childcare sector through training, regulation, and recognition
โ๏ธ Strengthen safeguarding and protection systems for childcare workers and providers
Together, we can build a more inclusive, dignified, and responsive childcare system that supports both children and caregivers to thrive.

The PS, State Department for Children Services (Kenya), held a high level meeting with the Kenya delegation in Lesotho during the session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC). The discussions provided valuable insights into strengthening child rights systems across countries.
Key deliberations focused on the need to reinforce national coordination frameworks to ensure that efforts across health, education, social protection, and child protection are well aligned and mutually reinforcing. There was strong emphasis on building strategic and sustainable partnerships among governments, civil society, and regional bodies to accelerate progress for children.
A critical takeaway was the importance of identifying and championing priority child rights issues based on country-specific contexts, supported by evidence and responsive programming. This approach is essential in addressing persistent gaps and ensuring that no child is left behind.
The meeting also underscored the significance of actively participating in the Day of the African Child (DAC), both technically and financially, as a platform to amplify childrenโs voices, strengthen advocacy, and mobilize collective action.
As stakeholders, we have a shared responsibility to move from commitments to action by strengthening coordination, investing in children, and advancing accountability mechanisms that deliver real impact in the lives of children across Africa.
