A 14-line Python script using gzip outperforming a 345m parameter transformer model is probably the most hilarious result I've seen all year. aclanthology.org/2023.findin…

Now we're talking about possible layoffs because what better way to get people to take what they're given and shut up than to threaten them with job loss?

FIFPRO is shocked and sickened by reports that professional footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani faces execution in Iran after campaigning for women’s rights and basic freedom in his country. We stand in solidarity with Amir and call for the immediate removal of his punishment.

The absolute BEST measure against impersonation is prevention. Once impersonation happened, it's really hard for systems (or people) to detect. Twitter is doing everything backwards regarding cybersecurity.

As I said earlier during the Elon Musk Twitter Space meeting with the advertisers: Twitter should focus on prevention rather than mitigation with the impersonation issue. As long as they only treat impersonation as their problem AFTER it’s happened I’m not sure they’ll get far
Twitter claims they've raised costs for malicious actors but I think they've actually lowered them. Now anyone with $8 can buy a verified badge rather than having to hire someone to hack a verified's account or trawl through password leaks.

here’s my analogy - imagine if music was just taught as scales, rules of harmony, forms etc without actually listening to it. that’s how math alas is so often taught.

Doing mathematics is one of the most exciting and awesome ways humans make sense of the world. Teaching it as a dull, boring subject is an unforgivable sin.

No one, ever.
Folks who had Covid are dying early of things that aren't Covid, so no one will connect the dots.
Don't normally use social networks a lot. Pretty content with my life... until now.
