Some members of the Jersey City Council are proposing the city destroy its tax base and make it harder to build new rental housing. Can anyone guess what type of ordinance was introduced at caucus today?

This is good. Do more of this. Commit to the plan for one-way pairs to eliminate conflicted left turns next. The new one-way streets will be wide enough for dedicated lanes for buses, Via, and emergency vehicles.
I am committed to making our streets safe for pedestrians. Today I’m announcing the next phase of our efforts: we’ve identified 17 of our most dangerous intersections for “turn hardening” safety improvements.

Hotelling's location model strikes again!
A locally owned bookstore in my town is opening a second location in a different part of town two blocks away from a competing locally owned a bookstore. Is this happening in anyone else’s town??

DEP is holding an open house on resiliency improvements to Liberty State Park tomorrow at 11:00 am. They will also discuss the status of the revitalization project.
Is Liberty State Park being developed? No. We filed an OPRA request with NJDEP to find out more about the status of various projects associated with the Liberty State Park Revitalization Plan.

Maybe I am just more sociable than most but I don't see how adding homes for new neighbors to live in detracts from a neighborhood in a city.

Just a few more meetings, Mr. Mayor, and you’ll have it all sorted in no time flat!
Hey, @SolomonforJC, I'm sure one more community meeting will fix it! The only thing more certain than a tax raise is Jersey City politics is Solomon's absolute inability to make a decision and stick to it. -Parking reform? Withdrawn -Canal Crossing? Withdrawn -Tax vote? Delayed

DO. NOT. DO. THIS. The “mandates” aren’t what’s working in Journal Square; the bonus floors are paying for the affordable housing but that has diminishing returns.
Replying to @3_under_scores_
I know; 701 got a Pilot. The mandates are working in JSQ we’re getting hundreds of affordable units coming online. Not saying they work everywhere but with the density bonus, I’ve been asked to expand it to other zones for demand to build more affordable, which we’re looking at

It will still cause dead weight loss that ends up harming more than it “helps.”

The irony is that this project was not subject to any affordability mandate at all. This project utilized a voluntary bonus, and was further incentivized by tens of millions in subsidies. The fixation on mandates is counterproductive and harmful.
Journal Square is leading the way in Jersey City on building much needed housing to match the crisis we’re experiencing in the region and getting mandatory affordable units in every new project.

If I were working in Jersey City, I’d ask whether the city’s zoning powers are the appropriate mechanism to require certain facade materials or whether that’s better left to state building codes.
I wonder who's going to opportunistically sue city hall. As much as I want to post a snarky response, as much as I'm not inherently against the Jersey City admin, just some of their policy miscues, this raises bad, bad questions about their ability to govern.

These conversions are good for business too! betterblocksnj.org/2026/04/2…
Crazy how this pedestrian plaza was a traffic-choked street only a few years ago! There must be hundreds of blocks like this in Manhattan and the rest of NYC which would be massively improved by permanently converting them to public walkways.

I can’t forget my white whale — The Albion Hotel — that would anchor the western end of the Newark Ave pedestrian plaza with new music and restaurant venues in a boutique hotel that would bring jobs and tax revenue. Sadly, Mayor Solomon and the local councilwoman oppose it. 🤷‍♂️
Also hoping this gets built soon to fix up the ruins of this historic downtown church. Otherwise this building is at risk of demolition through decay.

One of my current favorites in Jersey City, taken right after I finished a run to Home Depot.

Interesting to see downtown Brooklyn get a high-rise inside the facade of an older building, like several we've seen in JC. This upzonjng was also one of Open New York's first big policy successes. Photo by Alemel.

I can confirm. Back then I was a Solomon supporter. I thought he was in the best position to lead Jersey City into its next chapter. We met to discuss housing policy. His comments during that meeting — and, later, a set of bizarre texts — ultimately led me to stop my support.
When @eaconner, I, and others met with then-candidate Solomon last spring, we walked away with these same exact conclusions. Both vindicating and troubling to hear 70% of his own senior staff have come to the same conclusions. I worry for Jersey City. instagram.com/reel/DeSx8nOsh…
