Meet Jack Melly, co-founder of Kiqwetu Coffee Estate, Kenya’s first organically certified coffee farm.
Jack turned an abandoned quarry into a thriving estate using sustainable farming practices including vermiculture, and planting indigenous trees alongside his coffee.
Through MARKUP II, he’s become EUDR compliant and Rainforest Alliance certified. Through support to participate at World of Coffee 2025, Jack met buyers who now invest in micro lots in Kiqwetu.

📣EU-EAC MARKUP II is in South Sudan this week for the Regional Steering Committee Meeting
We are joined by government partners and stakeholders from across East Africa.
Day 1 involved Monitoring Visits to SMEs and institutions that have participated in MARKUP II interventions;
☕️ Naponi Enterprises - a woman led business that has significantly improved its quality management systems and packaging
👞Mayo Leather - one of South Sudan's largest leather processing facility that has received technical support to improve its production of leather goods
