Frank is hosting The Tonight Show. Rickles walks on, tells the band the song is wrong and sits him down. “Before you jump all over me” Frank- " I’m not that lonely.” Then he steals the cue cards and reads: “The following people will report to an alley in Brooklyn.” Sinatra says cancel. Rickles keeps going. Asks who his favourite male singer is. Answers “Dick Haymes.” Points at Barbara’s jewellery. Does the wedding-night bit. Tells Frank he wants to be with him so bad “Frank does too, but the judge won’t believe it.” This is the one man on earth allowed to talk to Sinatra like that on live television. And Frank is crying laughing. They don’t make rooms this dangerous anymore.

This outtake from YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN really shows how great Madeline Kahn and Marty Feldman were, and how much fun they had on set 😂 listen for Gene Wilder trying to hold back a laugh at the end

Every day, there are people on our streets who are hungry, homeless, struggling and too often forgotten. New Mayors come and go, making promises, yet they all ignore crises that make NYC less safe and more unhealthy. While patting themselves on the back for doing nothing but acting@like they care. Billions get spent of your money on the meantime. We judge progress by what we actually see on the streets. The Guardian Angels don’t walk past them. We stop. We help. We bring food and supplies, check on people in crisis and protect those who are vulnerable. We’ve been doing it for nearly 50 years because poverty doesn’t disappear after an election, and suffering doesn’t end because there’s a new mayor or a new promise from City Hall. As long as people are being left behind, the Guardian Angels will be there. If you need help… we will be there for you.

Last night I stopped to help a man on the Williamsburg Bridge who had just crashed with another bike, spitting up blood, one of his fingers severed at the joint, cuts across his face. As he tried to stand he swayed to and fro, falling over from the effort, so I yelled "hablas español?" and told him firmly in Spanish to sit down, then translated between him and the people who had already called 911 while yelling at passing walkers and bikers for a clean towel to stop the bleeding. It took 25 minutes for EMS to arrive, no one could seem to find a towel, and I felt I wasn't doing enough, but I knew some action would be better than no action. So we stood there in the aftermath waiting, trembling with the bridge as the subways passed below, waving our arms to try to avoid getting run over ourselves by the powered vehicles of all sorts that were barreling down the bridge towards me and the two other women who had stopped to help. The man was the fourth bloodied person in need of dire medical assistance I’ve seen on this bridge so far this summer, and I only bike across occasionally. There is not a day I cross where I don't see a near miss, the same five-foot opening where a father crosses carrying his daughter in his arms while someone whizzes past at 45mph on what most people would see and call a motorcycle. Something needs to be done to enforce safe cycling across the bridge and keep the motorcycles off it, to protect the people walking and biking across. @NYCmayor what can we do here?

Oh my god why is everybody so OBSESSED with me???
Thoughts and prayers to all those affected by my sleeves. Made the mistake of opening my social media this afternoon. Some of yall are OUT OF CONTROL. My biceps should NOT be a news story. We have more important things to worry about. Goodness. And God Bless America. 🙏🇺🇸

Søren Kierkegaard on the Importance of Walking “Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Everyday, I walk myself into a state of well-being & walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. But by sitting still, & the more one sits still, the closer one comes to feeling ill. Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be all right.”

🚨 BRITISH WOMAN UNDERSTANDS AMERICA BETTER THAN MOST OF THE PEOPLE PAID TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT Someone asked her what culture America even has. Her response was basically: Are you kidding me? Cowboys. Ranches. Rodeos. Southern hospitality. California surf culture. New York ambition. Midwestern communities. Jazz. Blues. Rock and roll. Hip-hop. Hollywood. Broadway. Baseball. Basketball. Football. Diners. BBQ. Thanksgiving. NASA. Silicon Valley. World-class universities. Laboratories. Inventors. Engineers. Entrepreneurs. And generations of Americans who served, sacrificed and sometimes died defending the freedom that allows wildly different people to live together in the first place. Then she nailed the part people miss: American culture became so globally dominant that people confuse its familiarity with its absence. That is an extraordinarily good observation. The world wears American culture, watches American culture, listens to American culture, copies American culture, builds businesses modeled after American innovation—and then some smug idiot asks what culture America has. Meanwhile, someone actually moves here and immediately recognizes what millions of Americans have been conditioned to sneer at. At this point, I am prepared to negotiate. We will trade Hasan Piker, AOC, Mehdi Hasan and Ilhan Omar for her. Four-for-one. Final offer. 🇺🇸 Welcome to America. You get it.

Student MetroCards have come a long way since I was in high school (s/o Franny Lew). But these students have some valid criticisms about the new student OMNY system. They're rallying outside of City Hall today for changes. Latest from me and @matthewhaag nytimes.com/2026/08/12/nyreg…
